Some owners treat their horses like family pets and refuse to put them in a claiming race where they belong for fear of losing it. A trainer once said this about horses, they're not pets. If you want a pet for a horse, buy a pony.

It is different for many trainers and owners. They don't want to lose their horse...because it is hard to replace. Once Engblom, Burke, etc claim the horse it is over. The horse is not the same if you reclaim it. Those are facts like it or not.

Some of the little guys will put their horses in a claiming race but for a much higher price than it's worth so it won't get claimed, only problem with that is, the horse has little or no chance of winning or picking up a decent check. If you're worried about losing your horse via the claim box then keep it in condition races where it has a chance.

    You conveniently fail to mention the bulk of trainers earnings are training fees. And the year isnt half over!  ngc3 To look at horseman's earnings and suggest its not thriving is TOTALLY MORONIC, YOU IDIOT!!       ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3

Even with training fees, they still have to pay their help, they don't work for free.

Help, huge tolls to Yonkers, the PED's, all add up. Only an idiot would think the money they are making is thriving.
Stop and think....oops that would suggest you could. MY BAG

Batavia Downs, Buffalo Raceway, First Tracks Cumberland, Bally's Dover, Harrah's Hoosier Park, Harrah's Philadelphia, Harrington Raceway, Hawthorne Race Course, Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, Hollywood Slots & Raceway, Monticello Raceway, Northfield Park, Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center, Ocean Downs, Rosecroft Raceway, Running Aces Harness Park, Saratoga Harness, Shenandoah Downs, Tioga Downs, & Vernon Downs are the majority of tracks .
That leaves Yonkers, Meadowlands 4 or 5 days a year, some Ohio tracks, Oak Grove. In Canada Mohawk is only track where you could earn.
That does not create a pretty picture.

Trainers make their money with a daily training bill. The 5% that they earn is not the basis of their income, not to mention the vast majority of trainers also own horses. They get purse money and their daily bill.

It is hard to have a conversation because of your low IQ. If you have 2 or 3 kids and make $250,000 you are not thriving. How many make more than that?

Not sure what planet you live on to make a statement that you’re not thriving if you collect a quarter million dollars and have two children? There are many people who thrive on way less than that. I think you’re a little out of touch with reality.
