Each political "maneuver" probably must feel right to the President that approves it. You'd like to think that all Presidents did these deals with the best interests of our country. The $ belonged to Iran. The money was NEVER in possession of the US. I believe South Korea held the funds at our request due to sanctions. The money was released not to the Iranian government, but to humanitarian groups working with Iranian citizens.
