In the old days--
« on: August 18, 2024, 05:57:57 PM »
Didn't drivers use stopwatches to know how fast they are going in an actual race?

It seems like today's drivers either don't know how fast they are going to the quarter pole and/or don't care!  It helps to know how fast/slow the pace is so that you can drive a better race.

Thoughts/input please!

Most drivers hands are so tight to their chest they couldn't see a watch if they had one.  Makes no difference anyways as it is a dash to the top and then stand them on their heads in a 29 or slower 1/4.

Marc Aubin used a stopwatch back in the 1980s.

Last person I remember carrying a watch was Mike La Chance.

I am not sure what to fast or to slow actually has importance with drugs these days ,,,,,,,,In the olden days 29  58  was way to fast and today a 10 claimer can go 27 54 122 150 and still be in for ten the following week,,,,,,,,, And today we have no speed horses just chalk on the lead every race and thats big time at WEG tracks,,,,,,
