With the absurd and untrue comments previously posted, it’s obvious there is a large contingent of Anti-Logic people trolling this site. That’s sad.

Why do you think a CASINO, needs state support beyond its construction phase and abated tax relief? Thats whats absurd.

The Governor, in a hush hush deal with the Seneca Nation is about to give exclusive gaming rights to the Indians in a deal that gives the state, 25% of the action. For the most part, that wipes out all other gaming venues in Central and Western NY. The Indians generate huge numbers as to joints like VD, forget about it.
There will be no interest in saving a shrinking market that the owner said was a mistake and cost him money everyday.
Sad to say, 1 of my favorite tracks to watch high caliber trotters in action may be gone soon.

Sorry. I did not know it was subscriber content. Times Union broke the story a few days ago. Governor Hulkul cut a secret deal with The Seneca Nation to expand their territory and give them the right to build a full service casino in downtown, Rochester. That would kick Largo, Finger Lakes and Batavia square in the sack. Vernon can forget any consideration from the state .
The arrogance of the Governor and her deal was leaked in the last day of the Legislative year and she got a kick in the as from the legislators. She had the onions to keep the deal from the Mayor of Rochester until it was a done deal.
Even though the people got a reprieve, unlike the long and arduous process you have for a private casino, including the site approval, with the Indians she needs nobody's approval.

Vernon is in the Oneida Nation gaming area. If what you write is true the tracks in Central West NYS  (Canandaigua and maybe Batavia would be in the Cayuga or Senecas area. Probably another nation in Buffalo area.
25%. Who keeps the books.  ?? They can keep anyone off their territory as it is a sovereign nation.

Buffalo is not interested in harness racing anymore.  Remember, Batavia took a few weeks of racing that was normally scheduled for Buffalo in 2023.  I believe Buffalo Raceway is owned/operated by the Erie County Agricultural society (in theory a non-profit entity which also operates the Erie County fair which makes mega bucks which opens after Buffalo Raceway closes in July for about 2 weeks)!

As far as Batavia, we will have to wait and see what happens.  At least they promote the facility and is owned by Western Regional Off Track Betting [WROTB].  In theory, they have to {make an attempt} to promote racing.  But do they??  Judge for yourselves!

You are correct about Indian Nations and the territory they control. VD is in the Oneida Nation.
Over the years, I have watched these Indian Nations do what ever they want. It may very well be their right as a sovereign nation but, they had and have  agreements with the state. Agreements the honor as they please. If something is bothering them, screw you, we ain't paying.
Cuomo reached agreements with both the Seneca and Oneida after 10 years of the scalping they gave New York. In doing so, he gave them very favorable conditions. They could do what they want, where they want and pay like 20% to the state. Mean time , Largo, VD, Batavia, and Finger Lakes were originally licensed under an agreement that kick 40% off the top to the state.  They also have very small and defined marketing areas. Indians, no restrictions.
Parked, you make a very good point, who is verifying the books? As of right now, I believe the Seneca Nation has a beef with the state and is not paying them. The state has zero leverage to get paid.  So, they give them what ever they want.
