it is over
It's called the methodical, calculated and criminal destruction of a historical institution referred to as the winter capital of harness racing! Pompano Park didn't have a lot of the problems that other harness tracks had! The weather was usually beautiful, there was a core of people that attended regularly and plenty of anxious horseman ready to avoid the horrors of the northern winter! When slots were brought in, it seemed like the future was going to be rosy! They had a nice little niche in the market that their competitors didn't have. Then came two groups of clueless owners! Instead of exploiting and marketing the natural advantages that they had, a program of compound ignorance was instituted! Soon they began to drive customers away from the casino with poor slot payoffs and uncompetitve promotions! Horseman stopped coming because they were continuously deceived and gouged by the unscrupulous management! Now you have to stand back and wonder who these idiots are that want to invest in one of the most foolish plans ever to come along! Turn the property into a destination hoping to attract people to flock in and spend their money! An industrial area on one side, a run down high crime scene on the other and the lure of the beach nearby! They will seek to lure people away from the Indians who have a mega head start and don't pay any taxes! And Bernie Madoff is in jail! Too fucking funny!
Impossible to make money with a business plan having one purpose in mind, imminent failure! As I alluded to earlier, Pompano had advantages over all other harness racing entities and there is a niche that could have been extremely profitable if astute management were in charge! Of course several of you guys on this site have your own agenda of continuously predicting the doom of our business! However despite your negativity, the business will survive once race tracks learn how to streamline their product, develop marketing strategies to engage the public (especially the youth) and stop wasting the time and effort spent bickering between management and horsemen because they are "supposed" to be working toward a common goal! Remember all the local business and communities that depend on our survival for their livelihood and pay no attention to the jerk off know it all's that must have lost 2 dollars along the way and are now just sour grapes!
I beg yout pardon, I lost 3 dollars.harness racing is doomed, blame it on cheaters and juicers where the blame belongs, not management
