It's all just nonsense. We were in Quebec City 3 weeks ago for a few days and had a great time. We wore our Maine baseball caps and locals were very friendly. Andrew is a little right and a little wrong in his comment about Canadians "frustration". Canadians love their country despite the high taxation which differs from province to province. No one likes taxes. Anywhere. As for their feelings about American tourists, they love having us there. Most despise President Trump. But they also know how to read quite well. They know the midterms are coming. The GOP will surely lose the House and maybe the Senate. They know his Presidency will be weakened by the midterms. And as for tariffs. Sure they might sting. But President Trump's days in power are numbered. He will ride into retirement and Canada and the US will become best friends again.
This "deal" was about more than tariffs. It tries to dictate what countries Canada can trade with and who Canada can't. It even attacks the French culture within Canada.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/mark-carney-counter-tarrif-response-9.7316934The prime minister revealed that the U.S. had issues with Canada's subsidies for French culture; the prevalence of French-language media online and even the requirement to have bilingual labels on products sold in Canada.French is an official language in Canada. Get over it.
Trump doesn't believe in win-win, for him it has to be win-lose.
