OH CANADA

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney sends his negotiators HOME after Trump pushes him too far – “AMERICA HAS CHANGED!”
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has ordered his trade negotiators home from Washington, rejecting Donald Trump's demands and delivering a stunning verdict on what has happened to the relationship between America's closest neighbors.
“America has changed,” Carney told Canadians Saturday morning. “We recognize that sometimes, its signature is written in pencil.”
That's quite a thing to hear from the prime minister of Canada.
Carney suspended negotiations Friday night after the Trump administration changed its terms at the last minute.
This morning, he explained his decision in a 22-minute address that went far beyond the usual diplomatic language countries use when negotiations fall apart.
“We cannot accept what they offered and we will not give what they asked,” Carney said. “We were not prepared to compromise Canada’s sovereignty or undermine our key industries.”
According to Carney, Trump's negotiators wanted concessions involving Canadian protections for French language and culture, and also wanted Canada to align some of its trade policies toward other countries with America's.
Carney called that “a power play” and “a question of sovereignty.”
Then he described what's happening between two countries that have lived peacefully beside each other for more than 200 years in language that would have been almost unimaginable before Trump.
“You’re at war when you’re attacked, and we got attacked.” Trump's new 50 percent taxes on a range of Canadian goods went into effect overnight. Canada is hitting back “dollar for dollar,” with its retaliation beginning Sept. 8.
But the bigger damage may take much longer to undo. Carney reminded Canadians that he warned last spring that America was trying “to break us so that they can own us.”
Now his government is deliberately expanding trade elsewhere so Canada won't have to depend as heavily on the United States. “Canada is becoming stronger and less dependent on America,” he said.
Think about what Trump has accomplished here. Canada isn't some hostile foreign power. It's the country next door, one of our oldest allies and our largest trading partners. And its prime minister is now openly calling the United States an attacker and telling his citizens that their future requires becoming less dependent on us.
Trump likes to boast that other countries finally fear America again. Problem is, our closest friends are also learning not to trust us.
“America has changed,” Carney said.
The painful part is that he's right. Sad.

Here you go dementia Drew!
The truth hurts!
Please don't deflect again!

Canadians find aspects of daily life frustrating, such as high taxes, formalities, and the need to remove shoes indoors. Economic development is also uneven between regions

Carney's appointment occurred against the backdrop of Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 United States presidential election and his threats to impose sweeping tariffs on Canada and even annex it. This period coincided with a dramatic turnaround in the Liberal Party's fortunes: the party had been more than 20 points behind in the polls when Trudeau announced his resignation, but soon after Carney was sworn in as prime minister, the polling gap had been eliminated, and the Liberals were in the lead, putting them in striking distance of a majority government. Analysts described the scale of their political turnaround as having "little precedent" in Canadian history. After multiple floor-crossings between late 2025 and early 2026, the Carney government achieved majority status in April 2026 (after by-elections were held to fill several vacant seats)

I'm thinking about a trip to Europe in 2027. If I go and anyone over there asks I will tell them I'm Canadian. More and more American tourists are doing this as well as flight attendants.

It's all just nonsense. We were in Quebec City 3 weeks ago for a few days and had a great time. We wore our Maine baseball caps and locals were very friendly. Andrew is a little right and a little wrong in his comment about Canadians "frustration". Canadians love their country despite the high taxation which differs from province to province. No one likes taxes. Anywhere. As for their feelings about American tourists, they love having us there. Most despise President Trump. But they also know how to read quite well. They know the midterms are coming. The GOP will surely lose the House and maybe the Senate. They know his Presidency will be weakened by the midterms. And as for tariffs. Sure they might sting. But President Trump's days in power are numbered. He will ride into retirement and Canada and the US will become best friends again.

One way in which they do this is through “flag jacking”. The trend goes like this: traveling Americans, wary that a foreign hosts will treat them with scorn and resentment, affix Canadian flags to their backpacks or clothing in an attempt to hide their heritage.

And the American border cities are suffering big time because of Trump and his policies!  Smart people and smart governments welcome tourism!
Trump has no concept of this! Andrew has repetitively said that comment about high taxation and taking shoes off entering a house!  Dougie, it a northern thing. Even in the states!  Why beat a dead horse continuously over this!
Despise Trump is an understatement!  Remember the word dislike!
The presidency is already seeing the beginning of the end now!
The best part could be after the midterms!
Down the road, people will see how Trump ruined America!
The people who review this already know who the worst president in history really is !  Trump by a real landslide in this!
