Terrible call IMO.
Nothing the McNair horse did changed the outcome of the race.

You're wrong, it was an easy DQ!; When you go inside multiple pylons especially on the turn like he did, you're running a shorter distance than the other horses. The margin of victory was under a length so the DQ was warranted.. When you go inside pylons especially on the turn, you're gaining an unfair advantage.

....and the usual penalty for what you just described to a tee is to be DQ'ed and placed behind all horse that were lapped on.

There's also a rule if you go inside a certain number of pylons in a row, which he did, you're disqualified and placed las. That rule varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction .

Really bad beat for McNair and co. But the horse was definitely running in on the last turn. And my old eyes counted he went inside at least 4 consecutive pylons, maybe more because the replay had a bad glare just before you clearly see McNair going inside the 4 cones coming off the turn. and the green animal ducked into the lighting lane.
