HAMBO HANDLE JUST SHY OF $7.5 MILLION AT BIG M
Saturday, August 2, 2025

Total handle on the 16-race Hambletonian Day card Saturday at The Meadowlands totaled $7,464,087, up slightly over 2024, when $7.427 million was pushed through the windows in North America.

“And after the foreign entities are added to the total, our Hambletonian Day handle figures to be in excess of $8 million for a fourth straight year,” said Big M Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir.

A crowd of 17,696 jammed into the mile oval as on-track betting totaled $851,826, an increase over last year of 8.2 percent.

“Great weather and the usual great Hambletonian Day card led to a big day of wagering on-site,” said Settlemoir. “We appreciate our faithful fans, and, of course our horsemen and staff for putting on another great show.”

Wagering on the Hambletonian itself saw a slight increase as well, as $1,172,046 was wagered on the 100th edition of America’s Trotting Classic, an uptick of 5 percent over 2024.

The 8.2 increase in on track handle is very telling.

His point is that harness racing is thriving on Hambo Day. The rest of the year when handle is down doesn't count.

This year’s on track handle will be mostly determined by the weather next Saturday.

Current forecast:
Partly cloudy with afternoon showers or thunderstorms. High 88F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 40%.

I agree, reposting something from a year ago shows how desperate you are.

My nephew was there yesterday as he is for every Hambo day. Had a great time. They were lucky to have such great weather. I've never been to a "Hambo Day", but would like to attend one day.

The sad, useless, and desperate for attention, Pacer 2, posts numbers from a year ago, desperately hoping anyone would believe his idiotic drivel. Let's break down the numbers, shall we? Off track handle, from a year ago, was $6,612,261. If memory serves, the host track sees about an average of 3-5 percent. IF you figure at 5%, the track received $330,613, which half goes to the purse account which would be $165,306.50. That means on their biggest handle day of the year, the tracks take was $165,306.50. The former Mecca is still LOSING MONEY. The dipshits keep spewing the garbage about how much the former Mecca handles. The fact is it's still hemorrhaging cash. Gural, and the whoresmen, desperately need a casino there, if the former Mecca is going to still be open. From what I've been reading, it ain't happening. This is why most whoresmen are packing up and headed for Kentucky. They see the writing on the wall. Handle means absolutely nothing, because no harness track makes a profit off of harness racing. Without handouts, harness racing will eventually contract.

       Sincerely, Silent One

the percentage is lower than 3-5%

at least half of M1 handle is CAW--and they get a huge rebate-so in reality its much less than that

If the Hambletonian all spurse handle of 7.5M made sense from a financial standpoint, gural would have never relinquished the rights to the open market.
