Yeah, back to racing tomorrow. I heard that the Casino in Monticello is having a hard time too! It's a nice Casino. But i think it's losing money each year. I spent many a summer in Monticello in the 70's when they were begging for a casino. Came 40 years to late.

they are reducing their footprint outside of Kentucky

they make millions off of their own HHR machines--similarly they own the company that makes those machines

they have closed ...

Bay Meadows
Hollywood Park
Calder
Arlington

and they want to sell the Fair Grounds

Here in Maine, the Oxford Casino and Hotel employs a large amount of locals from that area. The question is.....will they only sell to other casino interests or sell to any real estate interest who ponies up the money?

Churchill Downs closed their own sportsbook a few years ago because they felt it wasn't profitable enough for them.

You are probably right. Some bean counter decided that these listed properties had to go. But selling the Oxford casino to anyone except casino interests will put a lot of good people on the unemployment ranks.

Oak Grove and the other KY tracks

have 2 years before the players find that the casinos
have wiped them out.

Casino players can be fickle....

Then..the Oak Grove will be racing for $4000 purse
overnites .

The Strake races will still attract some play..

The Tattersalls, KY Futurity. etc.

The big question I have been asking is will Churchill sell to similar interests to allow these places to remain tracks and casinos? Or will they sell to the first buyer with the money?

  • Sweet: Click on "My Messages", if you send someone a message click the box - "Save a copy in my outbox" and that will remain in your "Sent" folder.  No "Draft" feature but you could just send yourself what yo want to save like a book.
