how many horses do you own
« on: Today at 12:12:18 PM »
i think some of the threads dealing with the overall state of the industry would be more beneficial if we knew if some people commenting had money invested in the sport
i am not suggesting that those that don't cannot understand the state of the industry but it seems based on some comments many posters have an axe to grind with harness racing
to be clear harness racing is far from perfect and has done nothing in the last 20 years or more to really help itself especially from a gambling/attendance perspective, but that doesn't mean it should be banished
for all those saying how the money funneled into harness racing needs to be pulled back to allow governments to use it in other areas, just think for a minute , based on past experiences do you really want these politicians deciding where these funds go , most of them could not run a hot dog cart in a park

as for the ownership of horses i will start
i own 2 race horses
i own between 25% -50% of 4 broodmares and their foals etc
I'm no diamond creek but its enough

I own 10  horses non of them are race horses. I also own the facility they are at. How many racehorses are housed on public property and generally at low rates?   I believe it was the same people you are saying should not decide where the funds go. So how much of this money leaves the state of Ohio ? I would guess that 40% or higher goes to owners that do not live in Ohio. How does 200k in purses and 7k in bets work for a night ? If horse racing was any other kind of business it would have closed long ago. Who decided to give handouts to this industry? Oh the same kind of people you don't want to decide now but I am sure you were ok when the horsemen got it

At my highest i owned 45 i average 25 to 30 most of the time. I was claimers/overnight  stock mostly with the occasional baby here and there.   I am down to 5 at the moment. To be honest no interest in expanding.  My tell my trainer to jam them things every week. They win or drop down even if second.  Some days I miss the bigger operation but most days I think well maybe these 5 will get claimed and I'll just sit on the beach horse free!

  • Sweet: Click on "My Messages", if you send someone a message click the box - "Save a copy in my outbox" and that will remain in your "Sent" folder.  No "Draft" feature but you could just send yourself what yo want to save like a book.
