Meadowlands discontinues Pick 8
« on: April 23, 2026, 04:32:31 PM »
Saturday (April 18) night’s $1 PK 8 was hit by three superb players for $21,417.50, but the bet, which was sponsored by Peter Kleinhans, has now been discontinued.

“We appreciate Peter’s generosity during the time we had the $1 PK 8. He had hoped that bigger carryovers would allow him to profit on the takeout but the wager did not generate enough of a handle.” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir of Kleinhans, who seeded the wager four times with $50,000 of his own money. “Now, moving forward, with our handle down at The Meadowlands, we are afraid to see the pick 8 for our fans.”

“We appreciate Peter’s generosity during the time we had the $1 PK 8. It created a great amount of excitement, especially when the carryover exceeded six figures,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir of Kleinhans, who seeded the wager four times with $50,000 of his own money. “Now, moving forward, we are out to show that at The Meadowlands, we are never afraid to try something different to keep things fresh for our fans.”

A 2nd late Pick-5 has been added.

Here is the new lineup of wagers that will be offered every racing night. They all offer a low 15 percent takeout:

Races 1-5: 20-cent Early Pick-5
Races 3-8: 20-cent Pick-6
Races 6-9: 50-cent Early Pick-4 ($50,000 guaranteed pool)
Race 7: Early 10-cent Pentafecta (Hi-5)
Races 8-12: 20-cent Late Pick-5
Races 10-13: 50-cent Late Pick-4 ($50,000 guaranteed pool)
Race 14: Late 10-cent Pentafecta (Hi-5)

How this idea got out of the idea room and into reality shows just how clueless management is and how out of touch.
Anything besides fixed win odds, betters dont want it

I know it's not that easy for the regular player and you may need to spread more than usual but I was shocked at how little it handled, even STARTING WITH a $50,000 carryover. Did people not know how it worked? Did they think it was a jackpot bet? Were CAW's not allowed?

If there was a $50K carryover into the Pick 5 there would be $150,000 of new money. The Pick 8 barely did $10K.
I salute Kleinhans for trying this and I'm sure he's sick that they got hit so quickly.

The P8 might have had a chance in the winter. There are less favorites.

Last year, they had many consecutive days of $3M handle nights. It was a significant number. Now the handle shrank big time. What caused it?

Did the CAWs reduce thier betting there?
Have people given up betting there due to the quality of racing?
Something is not right
