They have always balanced the purse account and to date. their is a surplus. The Cancellations are the biggest reason for the surplus.

i am specifically referencing the 10% +increase in purses, not the agreement which was important but did not guarantee purse increase so this is new
also headpole a few cancellations does not generate enough funds for a ongoing 10%+ purse increases

These are the most honest trainers ever anywhere, all the money they save from not testing which was such a waste, stressful to from all those contaminations... .GOD Bless them!

Don't purses get adjusted every year? For the winter meet they drop 10% and springtime forward they rise 10%?

 i dont recall the purses declining prior to this
of course yonkers has many faults, point being from the strictly business side of things ( purses) it seems to be doing very well
as we know good purses lead to more money for yearling purchases etc
again financially speaking all good for the overall industry

Yes.  They drop the purses through the winter when there is less competition for horses then bump back up when lots of tracks open.

Growing up I remember going to "Old Hilltop" when Roosevelt wasn't racing. What a horrible ugly place it was. I haven't seen it since they put the casino there so I gotta assume it's look a lot better now. I'm glad they are doing well there.

Their handle is beyond embarrassing. Last night they barely did $350K. Per race Northfield does double their handle. Monti regularly outhandles them. Even Saratoga now with their fake handle has higher numbers.

It's like a small secret fraternity by invitation only to a select few racing for MILLIONS of dollars a year presenting a product that literally nobody cares about or even knows exists. It's sad and troublesome. And this is coming from a Yonkers (and Harness racing lifer)...
