Winter racing up north—
« on: February 23, 2026, 03:25:07 PM »
What does it accomplish?

Racing over terrible surfaces with fast front halves and slow back halves (and horses on their hands and knees the last 1/4 Mile).
If horsemen would take shorter meets, they could race for the same amount of money and prolong the longevity of their horses.

I heard a well respected horseman say that the horsemen need to race less days but they won’t because they’re cheap, broke, and don’t know any better.

What you're saying already factors in the the minimum amount of required live racing days to have a racino?

But for the horses benefit, fuck the asshole horseman, they all fucked up warm weather winter racing.  ngc3

Northfield and Monticello race year around.

Saratoga races from February to December.

Does Batavia really do the horsemen any favors by races a 8/10 day meet in January/February before Buffalo opens in March??
Quite a few Western New York horsemen are traveling to Northfield and Saratoga as of this moment in time.

I liked winter racing a lot at Northville.

Skidding down the hill on Sheldon Road going south from 8 Mile Rd.

At the bowling alley there were more bookies and felons than bowling balls.
