Obrian Awards lose Credibility
« on: December 19, 2025, 12:22:08 PM »
Kudos to Dave Briggs, Who wrote Article in HRU today regarding Voting criteria for these awards. If you’re not going to choose the best horses who raced in your country, then why even have them. Lexus Kody, who represented Canada in international Trot this year and won the race, not to mention winning their prestigious Maple Leaf Trot in record time is left off their ballot? Ridiculous Rule that horse has to race on their soil 3 times in a year to be considered and BC doesn’t count? Shame on them.

How about Mary Ratchford a finalist for up and coming trainer. Her father trains those horses and there are bills to prove it.

How about trainer Moreau winning 10 years in a row then getting tossed out of the game.

As big as it comes.

I always enjoyed seeing them getting nominated despite having a positive test the same year!

i would hope that standardbred canada had some people visit where the ratchfords train and be 100% confident that she is actually doing the training work , but i bet they never did
to assume just because her name is down as a  trainer in name is foolish

just another example of a dysfunctional disjointed industry
i dint mind having regional wards or whatever for the locals, thats fine
bit there  should be one platform for the north american awards, the best horse is the best horse in each category,

The Obrian awards not only misses out on the best horse but they forget to honor the most important person in the game,     THE VET

Joe Obrian was the most honest guy in the games history and if you gambled you could not work for him,    He would be proud to see William Robinson     Richard moreau       Kevin mc master       Cassie COLEMAN      AND drivers who are always a go like BOB MCLURE and trainers who always try to win like Luc Blais  win under his named trophy,,,

Screw guys like DEL MILLER OR STANLEY DANCER OR BILLY HAUGHTON OR JOHN HAYES OR JACK KOPAS AND DOUG ARTHUR,       Those guys never trained the hard knocking claimers with big hearts but the top 4 OBRIAN AWARD winners did
