A driver's objection upheld at Northfield
« on: December 16, 2025, 08:53:04 PM »
Never seen this. Merriman files a driver's objection against the eventual winner and the judges took Marc St. Louis down after a five-minute inquiry in Race 7. Wonder what St. Louis did to piss Merriman off. I can't remember a driver's objection being filed before.

These 2 can't stand each other.  I don't agree with this Majeski dude.  Your either on the rail or out.  Aaron was hanging off the rail and that's the reason his horse's leg got clipped.

There was an objection on Sunday at Saratoga too.  Never seen one there either. Race 4 Winter Asher Staulbaum against Irvin Crews.

Mid 1970's   Sportsmans Park
IL. Bred Stake race.
I am driving the favorite.
Just past the quarter.
I hesitate at the 2 hole as I need just a little more room.
The guy sitting third hollars "Go ahead kid you got room". As I go in the hole he grabs his horse and then puts in an objection.
We both get called to the phone.
I heard The Presiding Judge Bob Milburn tell the SOB "Nice try, but don't try it again.
The SOB was Jim McGarty.
Trivia
What did Jim McGarty and D. Wayne Lucas have in common?

I’m gonna guess and say they both started in the quarter horse business.

True for Lucas, but what did he do before that?

I think he was a teacher or coach

Yes, they were both Wis. school teachers.

Bad call by the judges IMO.
Both St. Louis and Merriman were going for the same spot at the same time.
Not sure why coming down from the 3-path to the 2-path is frowned upon over coming off the rail to the 2-path.

I don't even think there was a judges inquiry, so they apparently saw nothing wrong until Merriman objected.

Decades ago.
Same exact scenario between Dave Magee and myself.
Only no driver objection.
Guess who got days?
The farm boy or the leading driver?

Its a good ole boys club.  Usually after an infraction and as usual, no inquiry, the driver tells the other one, “I owe you one”….

I thought the same thing.  Looked like a stiff job.
