I enjoy listening to him but have no idea what he is like in real life. That's sad to hear!

The last time I saw him in person was in the late 90's. He was hanging out on the track apron at YR with Hugo Iodice and Mike Sorrentino sr in an arm cast.
Sorretino jr was driving in the race and in the stretch Sorentino jr opened up a few lengths as Andrew Santeramo moved into 2nd, then Sorentino sr said loudly to Iodice and Anthony " Get the wheelbarrow ".

I believe that was Anthony Verusso ..not sure of the spelling lol.  The amateur driver.  He occasionally is on the mic there and at Rosecroft.  Think he even called one in Canada.   Elmer Fudd is better lol ngc3 ngc3 ngc3

I think it was the kid who does the paddock interviews at Meadowlands.

Arrogant about what? I never met him.

I am not sure what Anthony looks like now but back then he was a boisterous, poorly dressed (baggy dirty looking sweatpants type), and of course the shoe polish black hair dye.

Some people may not remember but George used to be a trainer and was also the announcer at Ocean Downs for alot of years. In recent years he got into T-bred training but hasn't done very well. He was also the leading trainer at Yonkers a long ago and had some success at Meadowlands too.

You are absolutely right. I remember when he trained and filled in as announcer for Bullet Bob Meyer at YR. At that time, he was the full-time race announcer at Ocean Downs in Maryland during their racing seasons.

I liked when George was at Ocean Downs.  Livened it up a little, and everyone had a nickname.   ngc3

He gets the nicknames from Jack E Lee who he idolized and is trying to reincarnate with his calls. The former Yonkers announcer has been calling at Ocean Downs the past few years and isn't exactly Mr. Excitement.

The guy in charge of the Harness Racing Hall of fame in Goshen once told me that he used to play in private poker games with Anthony and Jack E Lee.
Some of you older folks will remember the story when JEL was the announcer at Freehold he and George didn't get along and JEL once mailed a package of dog doo doo to George's house.

I'm sure alot of people aren't aware that Jack E Lee was also the announcer at Roosevelt Raceway for a long time.

He was the announcer of RR a long time, then Parr meadows 1/4 horse track in long island for about a year and then Freehold. Eventually he retired to Florida.
