You and I disagree on Collmus, I think he's good but not as good as he thinks he is, and demanded a larger salary from NYRA who ended up moving on from him. Even though he's the voice of The Triple Crown and Breeder's Cup I think both Travis Stone at Churchill and Dave Rodman at Pimlico are better announcers than him.

I will agree the last decade Collmus has turned into a screamer and not what he once was

he did command a high salary and NYRA said no thanks

Collmus gets the Triple Crown for NBC and I am sure Fanduel pays him well

I still consider him a great based on body of work before 2015

for me-placing importance on calling photos is key--Durkin, Collmus and Frank almost always make the call--too many just say "too close to call"--horses would win by a neck at Parx and Jones would say "its a photo"--for 25 years

I think some announcers don't like calling tight photos because they're afraid of being wrong, but when you won't call a photo on an obvious short head, you're just gutless. Even Warkentin is afraid to go out on a limb on a photo when sometimes it's obvious who won.

I always found it amazing most think Warkentin is good

just because his voice is familiar and sounds "nice" doesn't mean he gets a free pass for being inaccurate and his mid race assumptions are usually wrong

"Greenshoe drawing clear" will forever go down in history

He'll never live down the Greenshoe drawing clear call, although it looked like it might happen, but Forbidden Trade dug in. I still wonder if Sears was too overconfident. When Sam McKee was still alive, I hated them having to share the announcing duties when McKee was so much better. After he died, Warkentin stole some of Sam's material like such and such is bump drafting, and so and so is charging hard.

While you never know who you will hear on any given night at Yonkers, some of the announcers there are actually very good. it's tough sometimes to make half mile race calls entertaining. George Anthony is a character and does an excellent job. There's a guy Rich who fills in that does a very good job. The other day a guy who was doing Freehold announced and does a very good job. All 3 are better than many regulars I hear.

The problem I have with George Anthony is, he thinks he's the second coming of Jack E Lee.

Edison Hatter is average at best-much better handicapper than race caller

John Hernan I never liked--very dull and doesn't pick up moves from the backfield(when there is one)

Piassek's calls are not very good, nothing to do with the speech impediment

The "King" is better than the above mentioned

M1 and Yonkers , or any other  harness track--are just looking to pay a cheap daily rate and they don't care about the announcers performance

We need another Jack E. Lee!

George is very distinct and entertaining.

Listen to the guy Rich at Yonkers. He's very good and keeps it interesting. The Freehold guy (don't know his name) who fills in is good and seems to know his stuff.

Edison is sharp and very knowledgable.

Hasn't Freehold been closed forever since 6 months ago?

Arrogant about what? I never met him.

Years ago he and a woman did pre-race analysis at Pocono. He never let her get a word in edge wise and always cut her off. They eventually fired him and he claims he was unjustly terminated. He has a huge ego and is a real jerk. Yonkers may be going with multiple announcers so they don't have to pay them fulltime benefits, because it makes no sense not to have just one regular announcer.

I enjoy listening to him but have no idea what he is like in real life. That's sad to hear!
