Opening Day At Plainridge
« on: April 14, 2025, 01:24:04 PM »
Well, it's opening day at Plainridge and "Mother Nature" gave fans and horseman a great day to race. We've had a rainy and cold Spring here in Maine and New England. But sun, blue skies, and temps hovering around 60 degrees should make for a great day of racing. A lot of full fields today with the usual driving colony in attendance. Good luck to all who's putting a bet down. I bet we'll see some big prices today!

Nice warm day
Bigger track
Better “hay and oats”

Glad to see "Mainer" Mitch Cushing win the first at Plainridge. He owns the horse too!

Mark is a very good sharp horsemen! Works hard. Classifies horses to the fullest. Has lots and lots of money behind him.  Plus he has a great tackle box.

Which is a recipe for success, isn’t it!

ast time I made a bet there was about 15 tears ago when I was there live. Today I got a program to tune in, not bet.

What a yawnfest. Announcer is putting me to sleep. I'll take the GOAT Huston any day. Beckwith favored evert race, Even when he looks bad. Race 7 1-5 with a Cullpher off the sick scratch. Not a good bet. Off the board.

Agree, it will be interesting to watch him and Beckwith. Obviously, BB has a huge edge, but the competitive juices will be flowing

Saw a lot of short fields at Plainridge today even with the big purses. Also saw the usual wire to wire front end winners same as on a half mile track. Only difference is outside posts can make the lead easier than a half but once they get there if they are any good they stay there. I still like the racing at Toga better.

field sizes today...7-8-8-8-6-9-7-8-9-8-7

is that considered having "short" fields?

They changed the program!  From what the results say, post 9 is a 2nd tier start.  I don't believe this was the case last year.  Will the 9 post be 2nd tier the entire meet including stake races?
