They used to have individual windows like that at the old Brandywine Raceway. Some tellers may only have had 1 or 2 customers all night.

Same at Harrington before the Sports book. Duane Mitchell and a few others had their own window.

Speaking of Duane, you probably know he died earlier in the year. He was very talented as a driver and loved criticizing other drivers for bad drives. He used to go to the Turf Club I went to in PA a few times maybe 12 to 15 years ago. Wasn't a bad guy, but his mouth got him in trouble.

15-18 minutes per race. That way if you are alone racing more than one you have time to get one in, send the other out and have time to strip your horse so you can go watch the next race.

Maybe the funniest part is that at zero minutes to post,  the horses are still standing in the paddock.

I would love to see a change when the betting windows close.  Put up a clock and when it reaches 000 the betting windows close. The odds changing drastically after the gate rolls really keeps conspiracy theories alive. So much I’m starting to believe it myself!!! As far as time between races. No more than 15 minutes for harness. Times have changed. People want fast events. I had an idea but I’m sure no track would entertain it.  How about two harness tracks.  Let’s say woodbine Mohawk and meadowlands running a double header and promote each other. Mingle the pick 4s and 5s.  Then there is a race every 8 minutes. Fast action. Two different tracks. Let the track handicapper choose both cards.  Make a competition between them!!! Let’s make HARNESS RACING FUN AGAIN!!!!   Even have contests where a track patron can win a weekend trip to the other track!!!!

My late grandmother could knit a sweater in the time in between harness races.

Getting back to Brandywine Raceway have individual windows for each denomination of bet W-P-S. In those days they didn't have the ability to cancel tickets so if a teller punched out the wrong ticket, he'd be on the hook for the money if he couldn't get it sold before the race. I knew the $50 seller there and one time he got stuck eating (2) $50 win tickets because he punched out the wrong number. Unfortunately for him, the horse didn't win.

I was in the sports book at Harrington when one night he screamed John Campbell was the worst driver of all time and Orlando Greene could drive circles around him!

Sounds just like him, he always criticizes Kenny and Dennis Mitchell. When I used to go to Dover I always saw his dad Vernon but never saw him make a bet, he's still alive too.

I don't know that there is a dead-on right amount of time. I think it's going to depend on the track, the day, the crowd, etc., but whatever it is for each track, it should be consistent if possible. Whatever the time is, the mechanics and logistics can be worked out. That's why I say the overlap and stepping on toes is BS. $h!t happens, and a minute or two here and there can right any ship. In the abstract, I think 20 minutes could be about right. Once track ownership/management understands the business of running and track, and they learn how to do so, then they'll figure out how to fill that time and yield benefits from it.

Pocono has the least time between races. Northfield the most. I don't know how those Northfield guys can stand it on a bitterly cold winter night....and for fifteen races.
