Is The Meadowlands Becoming Monticello South?

My goodness. The 4th race at M was a $5,000-$7,500 claimer. What the heck is going on?

They better hope that they can go fast enough to make $$$.  In a 10 horse field, 5 won't make any $$$$$.  The cheap races will help the purse account and the bettors don't care whether it's a 5000-7500 claimer or better races, they will bet it!!!

Apparently at M1 it doesn't matter if it is cheap cheap claimers and short fields. They are over 3 mill again tonight.

The Yonkers FFA series ends soon and some horses will return to the Meadowlands.  The money they are saving on the purses now should allow them to increase them starting Kentucky Derby weekend.  This is the first time I can remember when the former LEVY series at Yonkers (MGM name now) had absolutely NO effect on the size of the Meadowlands fields or the handle, even with all tracks now open, so paying all finishers definitely helped them maintain the $3 million handles. Tetrick has only 28 drives at the Meadowlands this entire year and the bettors could not care less. Night's Handle: $3,250,963.64

last night's handle proved another false fact that they need 10 horse fields to bet over $3 million.. They had 5 races with less than 8 horses and even one race had a 5-horse field for $5000-$7500. Of the 10 horse fields they had, one was an amateur race, one was a very low trackmaster race and the other 2 were the lowest condition races.  simply put, they don't attract the best horses around like years past.

Sad!  Long gone are the days of 75-100k claiming handicaps on Saturday nights.  I loved M1 then! tmbz1
