Has anyone else had a problem with On-gait?
« on: December 11, 2023, 03:07:57 PM »
I have always had a good experience dealing with On-gait and have used their services in buying and
selling several horses. However something happened when buying a mare on the sight last week.  With about a minute left to bid, I entered a $200. increase on the bid.  I went back to the main page and saw that I had been outbid by $600.  Faster than the proverbial speeding bullet.  I looked down the page and saw that I was the high bidder.  No one else bid and I got the mare .........and made arrangements to pay and ship her within half an hour of the close of the sale.  I have had auctioneers try to jump my bid but never a computer.  I decided to contact Maurice who has always been prompt and professional in all of our dealings.  I have sent him two e-mails and have received no response......cri ckets.  I mention this  to you so you will be aware and exercise caution with your next transaction.

If someone puts in the sales ends at noon eastern standard time, the ‘bidding’ extends every 30 seconds after 12 noon until the bidding ceases. It can take 10+ minutes for this process. Is there an automated system or people ‘running up’ the bids on a horse?  Who knows?  Just remember on gait get a percentage of the final sale price regardless if it a final sale or a buy back!

At least he tries to improve his stock by buying here. Just tough to buy blind without at at least looking at a horse live and in person. A learning experience to say the least (look who the ‘trainer’ is beforehand before investing your money.

If he's been burnt many times, then I don't think he's improving anything! Maybe another type of Venue should be investigated?

Many people get “burned” in acquiring horses whether it is via claim, private purchase, or online. Does it matter which venue you use??

It seems almost every racehorse ongait is 100% sound with 4 clean legs. We all know that's impossible.  What I don't understand is why someone would buy a racehorse sight unseen.  Of course you can inspect the horse, but who's gonna travel in many cases two or three states to inspect one?  At least at a sale eg. Harrisburg, you can inspect the animal before bidding. Even a claim, you can eyeball the horse and watch him warm up.  Best case scenario for ongait is -- auction starts -- horse races -- auction ends -- and that's even a risk.

Do you know the man personally to know he is a dirtbag? Many people at sales run up horses. Are they dirtbags also? I usually agree with you on most of your posts though i do not on this one.

All the owners / shareholders of the site have access to who is bidding and how much there bidding.  It's completely rigged.  It needs to be public who is bidding just like a real auction.  Need to put a name to who is bidding.  It still doesn't eliminate the fact the owners can see your max bid and run you up by underbidding.  They want to make sure they get there max commission.
