In total, 344 yearlings went through the sales ring during the second session grossing $14,690,000 with an average price of approxiately $42,704. That brings the total gross for the first two days of the yearling sale to $29,913,000 for 497 yearlings sold, resulting in an average price of $60,187.

Through two sessions in 2022, 506 yearlings were sold for more than $35.7 million, with a two-session average of $70,613.

A sign of the economy. Here and in Europe. Alot of European buyers not going crazy as the past few years.

Nothing happens here that doesn't happen in KY. Collusion, buy-backs, bid ins and ups, and so on. On one hand, the right product sells, but the market is certainly not completely pure or efficient. In any sale, there are some good values, even bargains. But if you are looking at a horse that various people are on, forget it. Too many times you are playing in an unfair game with the deck stacked. Farms want their horses to go to top trainers, certain trainers have the inside track on the farm's babies, and some breeders have deals with certain buyers that they will retain a piece, which only gives more incentive for a higher price. That said, I saw what I thought were some good values today. Brett Pelling got a really nice colt and so did Trevor Ritchie and Steve Elliott.

Tom Grossman in an interview this morning with the Stable. CA. sounded very disappointed and mentioned that Gurals list didn’t help.

Lots of cheap horses especially today, and they should have been cheap. Some would not have been accepted years ago. Most of the really big numbers are deals anyways, AH good luck, you're starting out with a hell of a head start. Hope they have some that turn out.

sale way down this year

Lazarus's sold for very little today, average less than $8,000

today's numbers looked brutal like people finally ran out of money

trainers understand an empty stall pays no rent or bills

The USTA article cut this out of their report. 'In total, 313 yearlings were sold on Wednesday for gross sales of $5,957,000, averaging $19,032.'  ------------For once the little guys got the proper prices of what these were worth.  Lazarus N averaged only $7471 on 17 sales over the 3 days, which is less than the stud fee was!  Captain Crunch averaged $21,815 over 27 horses sold over the 3 days.  Greenshoe average $24,262 over 42 horses sold. We see where this is heading with these 3 sires.

As long as they have 4 legs and have good breeding by today’s standards, isn’t that good enough?  Everything comes to money money money today!  Not many standards/morals anymore!!
