One OBVIOUS mistake.
Bret Hanover.
And while were at it can't rule out Meadow Skipper, Albatross, Most Happy Fella and Jate's daddy No Nukes whose sire line is still active through Western Ideal.  All super fast Champion 3 yr olds.

I admittedly stayed in the Modern era, everything post Niatross   Didnt want to delve into the Brets or Overtricks or adios Butlers or Dan Patch

[/quote  All great performers and foundational sires especially   The likes of SBSW, Artsplace, Nihilator, et al would have jerked their bridles, IMHO

Probably true,  but from your experience could the newer equipment especially sulkys have made some of those old timers competitive with todays horses or do you think it's mostly evolution as those sires plus Abercrombie are the foundation of todays speed?

[/qu        That's always the enigma   Take a Bret Hanover   Fast forward him 50 or 60 years   Hi tech equip, race bike and wheels   better race surfaces  inmproved nutrition and a live driver like a Dunn or Tetrick laying almost flat and it starts to make you think he could drop like 7 SECONDS and then boom he is flirting with 1;45   Just no way to know    I saw Most Happy Fella and Albatross   Just saying in my opinion SBSW or Artsplace or Nihilator  those types would still blow them away   As for Dan Patch   Good God    !:55 in 1905   How do we even begin to comprehend that and place him now 120 years later

Although he was 2 YO champ and 3 YO champ, and was syndicated for a then-record $3.6mm by Alan Leavitt, Nero probably did not have the raw speed of most on the top 10 list; HOWEVER, he had a truly beautiful conformation and, even to this day, serves as my model of how a pacer should be put together.
