« on: November 17, 2021, 05:06:26 PM »
It’s in the Albany Times Union today, it’s not expected to pass, however PETA and the gang is not going away.

If someone can post a link it would be helpful

Tick tock.
A new brand of Democrats are in power now. Racing will need to come up with another tune to keep the subsidies coming in.

NYRA will vigorously oppose this legislation in order to protect jobs for working families, preserve the horse racing economy and ensure the sport’s success now and in the future," said Patrick McKenna, a spokesman for the New York Racing Association, which operates Saratoga Race Course, Aqueduct Race Track and Belmont Park. "Racing support payments are not subsidies. The payments from (slot machine) revenues are made to the thoroughbred industry in part because NYRA transferred land and other intellectual property to the state in 2008, and has acted as the steward of the properties in the years since."

over time people forget or people come in who were not involved in the original dealings
it is the same with the casinos, they now seem to forget why they have casinos, because they struck a deal with tracks to allow them gaming licenses etc but now they to want to decouple

Wrong.

It's not "the people involved," as you say.

It's the will and sentiment of the public.

When you and your colleagues and you cry like beaten children at the suggestion of legislation to clean the sport, the public returns the favor by not supporting you.

People would rather see better schools tfor their kids rather than new trucks for harness welfare recipients.

It's an inconvenient truth.

Only scumbag, socialist whoresmen, who are nothing more than welfare recipients, would say that the only reason there are casinos, is because of the racetracks. The only reason there are racetracks NOW, is because of the casinos. Harness racing has been for decades a FAILED BUSINESS. How long must taxpayers keep giving handouts to unworthy, ungrateful scum? Call your congressmen, call your Governors, and tell them to DEFUND HARNESS RACING NOW!!!

    Sincerely, Silent One

It falls on deaf ears because the public isn't educated on the money that could go from the casino to the state budget to be used elsewhere, than money going to purses, and money to breeders. When the state government needs more money they just ask the taxpayer for it while the horsemen when a governor looks to take the money away they come out with a loud voice. You get the fake billions going into the economy when it's just one part of the billion $$ ag industry. The 30k plus that work in each state theory again fake and 2/3rds probably paid in cash and don't even file. You need people within certain lobbyist groups to get the word out. It will take a longer felt recession to decouple away as states search for revenue with massive budget holes. Then and only then will the chance be at it's greatest.

There are some real idiots on this site, eg Calhoun thinks the will of the people can violate a legislative pact between casinos and horse tracks . Another idiot, eg Silent One thinks the taxpayers are writing a check to the racetracks.
