Actually Cindy called for a different reason and the mix sale is on. Not very big 87 entries with 16 being stallion shares.

ohio was strong
i expect lexington to be strong but down 10% overall versus last year as the top end will certainly come down compared to last year

Trying to get as many entries as possible and if it hasn't closed they may add supplements to the sale. I expect there won't be many eye catching raceway horses? It's cheaper, one gets there money quicker using ongait, and you still get a ton of eyeballs.

we're almost at the Lexington sale and night 1 should be a barnburner!

last year we had the start of a budding rivalry where Damien ($1,000,000), one qualifier, no earnings yet and Maverick ($1,100,000), less than $10,000 in earnings  sold huge!

we also had Adirondack ($400,000), the first out of Mission Brief), has already earned back $12,000

Mycrownkingdom ($450,000) won his qualifier in August in 2.00.1 at Woodbine Mohawk and may be ready to earn his first check

On Eight Hundred ($800,000) just missed in his last Kindergarten race and is already up to $16,798 in earnings

Aptly named Really Fast ($700,000) may be too fast to train as he hasn't qualified yet, maybe they can't catch him in the field

Plaid and Pearls ($390,000) may have his picture on a milk carton in your refrigerator as he too is sight unseen

Appalachia ($240,000) has 3 starts and yet to earn a check, great pedigree too, much like Adirondack

some questioned paying $350,000 for a Bar Happing, and My Abigail also may have her picture on a milk carton

the sale is coming up soon and bidding may be fierce, but probably not as fierce as last year

I spoke with one of the bigger farms in KY yesterday more on a race mare I have and options where to sell and how breeders may play in buying broodmares later this year. Of course it all depends on how the sales go this year with Lex and Black book sale. Fair answer I asked if sales were down 10% would it be a success and answer was a that would be a great sale. He went on if it was down 30% it would be a good sale back to prices 2 years ago. So I think breeders are feeling better after the past couple smaller sales that the money is out there. Also look for money bump on KY sire finals and Keenland looking to build a harness track in Corbin in the near future. I don't see the purpose in 1.0mln dollar sales for a trotter but these days we have seen a shift to more owners on horses and the chances to have ownership on more top horses with a smaller stake.

I believe the Ohio sale was bolstered by the Downbytheseaside's and otherwise the sale would've been much less

I also think Lexington will be down substantially from last year, but last year it was up a ton

last year had a 750k, an 800k, 2 million dollar horses, etc.

I doubt Lex has that this year

i would suggest lexington down by 10-15% based on the top end coming down
of course lots of nice hoses but i don't see any selling for more than 700k even with farms buying some or all of them back

Horses first,
Don’t take this personal but are you ever positive on racing? If it’s so bad just get out of it. You make want to take up pigeon racing.

What are you taking about the first sentence is from the sales company. The second is most are keeping quality race horses. The third is truth you save 7% and a 400 enter fee on ongait then at Lex or Harrisburg mix sale. If you have a good or average racehorse selling on ongait makes more sense. If you have a allstar then you go there. Seems like commonsense Cigar sorry it went over your head. Plus two breeders told me they are waiting till after the sales to see what they will spend on broodmare.

Yes I'm down on racing till they clean it up and even the playing field. Sorry stance I've had for a long time. But if you like all the cheating more power to you.

Breeders love averages. They dump their low end stuff online and then tout the average.  Good horses always sell well and the bottom end always sell poorly. Auctions are picnics for them. People that go to one auction a year get brutalized, they have no idea of the games played.
