You really want to sit next to that  nude old broard in a mask, diaper and oxygen tank, at the Black Jack table?

under video gaming reports you can see how ny divides the money between the state the owner and the purse accounts for every track.

Sad they paid out as fast as they took it in, not a penny saved for the future.

These tracks have zero money to race for without slots and casinos are 6-8 months from resuming operations.

I dont think many tracks will ever reopen.   Places like Hoosier Park have zero ability to social distance on the gaming floor.

Horsemen never cared about the fans and now they have found their free money to have dried up.

Not one track including meadowlands handles enough to race.   For meadowlands to operate it would take 20 million handle.   The rest of the tracks forget it.

Harness needed a contraction with the cheaters running wild for free money.   This is a good time to not race and let the trash rot.

Harness racing as we knew it is dead. Face it, it`s not just the pandemic either. The FBI drugging case will be back as well and those animal rights groups will fuel the fire to kill racing. If you are in the horse business, you might want to consider a different line of work when this is over. The states have wanted out of the racing business for years and they finally have the ammo to do it.

1st - If I came across as attacking you, I didn't mean to. I respect your opinion.

2nd - Who do I trust?..... I don't trust any of them!..... Years ago people reported the news.... Today its all sensationalism & everybody tells you how you should feel, and if you don't agree with them your wrong and I'm not just talking about the night time opinion people.
This happens on the left and right.

3rd - I didn't vote for Trump & I do say fake news a lot..... I watch about 50% CNN, 25% FOX & 25% the 3 major networks. Two of my favorite shows are "Smerconish" and Fareed Zakaria GPS.

4th - Every model that has come out over the last 2 months, has been wrong, they pretend they can tell us whats going to happen, but its mostly guess work.

5th - I'm truly sorry for the loss of life, but I believe millions of people are going to lose their business/life savings, and many more could lose their house. I believe future poverty & homelessness will kill more people around the world than the virus. Our last recession was 10 million unemployed, were probably closer to 40 million unemployed today.

Fair enough and well said. We may not be that far apart in our views.  My personal disdain for this administration is much with the guy at the helm. He rankles me on many levels deeply.

Let's hope the loosening of quarantine controls goes better than you and I expect or that some therapeutic s or a vaccine are available sooner than later.

There are already a lot of people out-of-work and  small businesses shuttered.   Regardless of one's world views the suffering is palpable and tough to absorb. I'm optimistic though the country will survive  and thrive in the not too distant future.

Then we can have some more fun and  amusement betting a few $  on the Big M and Mochalk!

Ask Ontario if they can take the slot money away. They at least were given a subsidy. Does anyone here think the Gov of Ohio cares about harness racing? Who brings in tax dollars, harness racing or the casinos? The legislature can change the law any time they want, harness racing doesn´t have a chance lobbying against Casinos. When the indictments filter out to Ohio, like everyone thinks will happen, it will give the casinos and Gov a quick reason to rid themseives of the sponges that are harness racing.

the people who visit the slots are unaffected by this( assuming they survive)they are largely unemployed or retired so the government handouts are actually helping them

I doubt the unemployed will be using their stimulus checks to play slots.  Besides, that money will be long spent by the time the casinos open up.  As for retirees, to a certain extent, they count on dividends and savings interest for discretionary income.  With dividends being cut or eliminated by many companies and interest rates at all-time lows (the 10 Year T-Bill is hovering around 6 tenths of 1 percent), there will not be much in the way of discretionary income.

People ultimately decide themselves when there's no quarantine whether to go out or stay in.

Exactly!  Poll results published today indicate that the majority of Americans are not sold on specific types of businesses opening up.  The business that polled the highest for opening up was Golf Courses at 41% (still way less than half).  Dine-In Restaurants at 26% and Movie Theaters was the lowest at 18%.  Casinos and Race tracks were not on the list but outside of plopsters, what do you think they would have polled at?

The bottom line is be patient      tmbz1
OR be a patient!                          :(

just a few comments
to compare racing handles and attendance today versus the "good old days" is illogical
back then there was no competition, only vegas and new jersey had any casinos and legal sports betting was no existent and you had to go to the races to see them not watch on your phone or computer, so of course horse racing should get some slots revenue since everyone knew once they were set up on the tracks grounds they would take revenue away, remember especially initially the casinos needed the tracks to get them set up , that was their path of least resistance

as for purses etc going forward , none of us know, we will just have to wait and see  and i suspect it will vary by region etc

It seems like some of the tracks are likely to race with the grandstand closed at least initially. Be nice if some of the tracks put a little more into their simulcast product... the production quality of some places is truly craptacular. Astonishing that Cal X who is partnered with TVG is so bad, you'd think them out of everyone would have slick production.
