HYMIE JUST THINKS IT IS ALL BECAUSE OF HIM

NO WHERE DOES HE THANK THE BETTORS, THE CUSTOMERS

The Meadowlands has seen an increase of 28 percent in all sources wagering on the live racing product over the first quarter of 2019 versus the 2018 figures.

Thus far in 2019 the amount wagered on Meadowlands races both live in the building and on the exported signal is $73,429,590 against $56,969,899 over the first quarter of 2018.

Further broken down, the handle increase in the live on track is at 15 percent while the exported signal is 30 percent higher than last year.

“We believe that the purse subsidy has had the positive effect on handle that we expected. Hopefully the positive momentum we have established will continue as we enter the next phase of the racing season with the younger horses coming back followed closely by the Grand Circuit stakes season,” said Meadowlands Chairman and CEO Jeff Gural

Hey Schmuck, you already have shown what an idiot you are by saying he cut off the 6th through last purse checks, when in fact it was the NJSBOA that requested it.
Go back to your cave, you Neanderthal.

M1 and Gural are the only harness track to increase revenue in probably last 20 years. Give credit where credit is due. Yes, he received a handout from the state but it is no different than all the other tracks that receive handouts in the form of slot money. The difference is his track made it work while every other track would have to basically shut down if their handouts dried up. Pocono, Yonkers, the Ohio tracks and even Hoosier would be racing for a bag of feed and a bucket if their purses were based on track handle and not pumped up by slot revenue.
yonkers has wasted their hand out ,giving it to 100% scum of the sport

Deserves credit? M1 races on a Fri and Sat night and even with th handout couldn't put together a good week card of 4 or 5 nights of racing like the other slot welfare tracks. If so the purses would be paltry compared to Yonkers and Pocono. Has there been a breakdown of where the 20% increase hails from...on-track, ADW, or simulcast. Or more cartels? The Meadowlands is a far cry from winning any awards like comeback player of the year. Which again took tax payer money.

Wow no shit brainiac! Maybe Gural can have a Saturday thank the tax payer event at the track. Since wagering is up 20% it a tax payer 20% rebate night. Once again if the track went a normal 4 or 5 nights like other tracks purse would be meager. We already knew from Gural he was putting 5mln a year into the purse account. Well maybe? Because the 20mln handout The Meadowlands only gets 6mln. So did Gural really dig deep for 5mln a year to help purses? The Meadowlands just awarded purse increases twice already? Seems like the math doesn't add if he's working with a fresh 6m vs his own 5m?

I do have skin in the game with 5 broadmares and pieces of 1 3 yr old and 5 two yr olds. A small piece of a Trixton and a foal coming in May to Trixton. Been in the game for ten years and wagered on thoroughbreds for 19 years prior to owning.  I go either way with Gural, he stood up and with help kept the Meadowlands afloat. But he was in it for the casino nothing more nothing less. Then for years he said he couldn't keep it open even though he had a out to recoup 105-110%? Am I wrong on that, I honestly forget. Then the talk of yearly payments the past few years of 5mln a year out of pocket. That part to me doesn't make sense with the new math of the 6mln from NJ lawmakers. Yes...I understand on tax payer dollars and tax programs work. My take on horse racing industry while taking in all this money hasn't generated anything new to the sport. It hasn't brought it back from the demise of fans no longer willing to support it at the window. It hasn't brought in a new generation. It's me me me. Greed because they were able to partner there land with a casino operator who no longer wants the race tracks around.   If the sport isn't propped up by a subsidy it's bound for doom and gloom.

Besides the trickle down you speak of Mike. NJ borders PA and NY. So when everyone leaves like they left Ohio long ago. Or MI. IL over the last decade. Those vets move on where the business is. The farriers travel. The farmers who grow hay just gets shipped a longer distance. Sure the breeding farms take it on the chin. But they will send there stallions or mares where they can still thrive. IL use to be the #1 Or #2 harness racing state in the mid 80's. Use to have as many as 5,000 broadmares. Now your lucky to find 250. Why...The politicians kept the money away from them. Worse yet, had a recapture law that gave the race track owners money from the purse account, because a failing wagering handle. Drivers left and thrived. Trainers left and thrived. Owners left and bought elsewhere. Physics of supply and demand? Or plain and simple economics.
