They should have at least that month in the field, if possible. The air, water, soil, food and environment is very different. You are looking to have a horse at the pinnacle of skill. You will need every advantage.

this horse may as well be coming from a different planet. its winter down under he comes to the beginning of summer here. completely different strains of germs and virus up here than down there. feed different. meds different.  training, equipment, racing and tracks completely different.

its just very tough to change environment completely and the horse to dominate at that level. people don't understand the shock that horse will experience. he'll get here with a big old winter coat. now its going to get hot here. even if they clip him its a great shock to their system.
