Sure...the purses are higher than the handle........but they make it up selling poutine, hot dogs & beer.

A NOTE to Wiggles44

I will type this real slowly ....so you will be able to follow my explanation.

More than 15 years ago, the Ontario Government was looking for locations to house their slots.
Instead of having to construct / build locations...they decided to put their slots in racetracks, that were no longer as busy as they used to be, or in buildings on properties owned by the racetracks that were not being utilized.
Amongst those racetracks were small tracks like Hanover , Clinton , Kawartha , Hiawatha and Dresden.  In the early days , the "rent" enabled them to race 2 or sometimes 3 days a week...at better than average purses for the calibre of horses they were racing.

This plan, which also included the large tracks..like London Woodbine Mohawk...was brought to an abrupt halt by the Government  about 5 years ago.......putting a real strain on the breeders..as the halt came early in the year.

Negotiations went on for years and only recently was a new long term plan signed.

The small tracks only race once a week..over a much shorter season........cat ering mainly to cheaper horses...with the odd late closer...and annual visits of the Ontario Sires Stakes programs to beef up interest in getting people into buying   babies.
The slots are still run out of the original properties at the small tracks........and the rent does cover most of the purse money....but only enough for 1 day of racing a week. The races are well attended at these tracks.......bett er crowds than Yonkers and Poconose...and its a fun day of racing

Find a new topic.....your welfare line is old

The other 3 tracks in your list are in New Brunswick and I wouldn't call racing for a  $ 1200  purse  welfae

Wow.... Going for a whole 1200 in Canadian....that means going for 800. Is that why you have horses in Canada with 20 wins in a year with 5000 on their card ngc3

This is a very interesting tread. Would only be fare to have one for USA tracks tmbz1. Think of all the money that could go to the illegals crossing the boarder
Think of all the money that could go to a-readin and a-writin programs for illiterate rednecks!

Hows about providing us a list of all gov't frivolous spending of our taxes. I bet this falls at the bottom and would be considered immaterial ya dope.
