The corresponding program from a year ago saw 93 horses participate on the program, and the result was an average of 8.5 starters per race for 11 races, with a total wager of $2,420,244. Friday night, only 75 horses (a 19 percent drop from 2017) competed on the 10-race card, an average of 7.5 starters per race, which included two four-horse fields and one five-horse field in the NJSS events.  With yonkers not racing this weekend, this horse shortage thing is a bunch of bull.  There is not a horse shortage at the meadowlands, there is a purses for horses shortage at the meadowlands.  Routinely it says on the condition sheet, fields must have 7 entries to be carded.  I think the track owner is intentionally trying to make the track look like a failure so he can con the government into those subsidies.  Trying to coincide it with the advent of sports betting, He has to pay a tax to the state when accepting bets, so now he is looking to get a huge chunk of that returned via the way of a welfare check.  Horsemen are no longer getting calls or texts saying that horses are needed to fill races, the short fields are just a management ploy.
