Maybe if you thought about it you’d realize a lot of the guys at Vernon are bringing young ones along and actually teaching them to race instead of just going balls to the wall every time they place foot on the track.

Precursor, like many people in the industry, I know Gural. Long before he took over the Meadowlands. We are not friends. We've both been in the game a long time, I've seen him at numerous tracks, the sales, Harrisburg, Lexington, and so on. I had breakfast with him once and dinner once, and both were circumstantial, not planned. That's it. We are not friends. So, my take, Gural has done more than anyone else to clean up the sport and the industry. Period. If you don't believe that, please, if for whatever reason I forget, please remind me not to respond to you. Thanks.  Gural has done a great deal and has given tremendous service to this sport and industry. Right up front, I don't give a damn about his motives, he wants a casino, all the other defections and aspersions, ad BS. He has personally contributed to major, industry-wide investigations, cases, indictments, and so on.

However, and I have said this from day one, moment one.....I do not agree with his lack of a universal standard for barring people. Consistency is certainly not a word that would be used to describe his actions. Lack of, yes. I view this as a major fault. I have seen him at the track, at several events, etc. However, none have been the proper or appropriate forum to question him on this. I have emailed him on this specific subject, not with a calling him out approach, but I did make my points very clear and explicitly asked the question. I received a lengthy, detailed reply. He provided a great deal of information. He brought up some valid points. He went into some specifics. However, none of which resolved what I proposed was a problem. That's OK. I saw Gural at a sale about a month later and he approached me, was pleasant, polite, and treated me the same way he always has going back to when I first met him around 35 years ago.

So while I don't like what may appear to be a pick and choose on who can play and who can't, that doesn't negate everything else that's taken place. It's not perfect. It's not yet ideal. Even ideal is not consistent. People can say this started out, or perhaps became personal. Of course. These two guys were taking jabs at each other back in 2017 on some issues. But the issue, is still the issue. Track ownership may want one thing. The race office may want something else. Throw out a cheating trainer and in no time you will have 3 to 5 more replace him, and you'll have horses from 3 to 5 barns, not one. Everyone said the industry would not survive Brooks being thrown out if his brother wasn't allowed to buy the horses and continue the operation. Brooks had far more horses than Taylor. Simply put.....no one person or operation is bigger than the sport or industry. If one gets to be.....then you have a far bigger problem than the one.

Talking about Ongait overpriced horses anybody get a load of Americagreatagain in the 5th at Chester yesterday?  They gave the drive to Dexter he made a big move past the half went 3 wide to head the 2nd place horse at the 3/4 then immediately appeared to spit the bit and went backwards walking at the end of the mile beaten 30 something lengths.  Very rare to see a horse go backwards like that after one move in the middle of a race without breaking.

Provost will never get his money back on this one.

Good!  He’s won plenty with his incredible run of luck selecting trainers!

Had him once drive my mare she went off 1/9 he threw the lines to her trying to 1/4 pole move to front and she jumped like a Gazelle! That was the only time I ever used him. Very overrated in my opinion.

Nice story Tim  tmbz1 tmbz1

I am happy I found that as I just read that Majestic Man died.He often would beat the best sprinters in NZ over the mile. (Of course most races over there are at least 1 mile and a quarter).

He retired to a farm with another horse. They were best buddies and he ran into a fence which he has never done. They didn't elaborate but I guess the injuries were too much to overcome.  He was 9yo and won 24 races and 855,000.

One good thing about the racing down under. If you get caught doping, the penalties are way more severe. In Australia if you do something wrong, you get the book thrown at you.

They have the Racing Integrity Unit in NZ that governs all types of racing,

Then there's the ASSHOLE in NZ who was convicted of 11 counts of animal cruelty after the SPCA installed cameras and an appelate judge in NZ overturned his conviction saying the cameras were illegal.

That fucker should have done to him what he did to the horses.

Here's a feelgood story.

Self Assured (stable name Jimmy) has been taken care of by his groom Jimmy (Mark and Nathan Purdon stable) all of his racing career. The horse finished 2nd in the Auckland Cup to an Aussie horse last week and his Aussie owner, Jean Feiss retired him and has given him to Jimmy to take care of for the rest of his life.

The two jimmy's were inseparable.

As an 8 year old he was winless in 10 starts but had 6 seconds and a 3rd for $124,000. Most of that when running 2nd in his last start.

The owner said it was time to retire him because that's the way she is. She thinks of her horses first. He retires with 74 starts 30 wins 25 seconds and 8 thirds for $2,419,619.

Great to see people who care about their horses more than the money. It helps she is rich.
