Will they give up the horse racing ?
Not at all.Don't count on harness racing being moved to Long Island.Best bet is a new facility close to Middletown, New York.Winner for all if that happens:MGM gets additional space for gaming, horsemen still get their percentage, and logistics are good.
With the state contractually bound to return a pro-rated licensing fee to the 4 up-state casinos, it make no sense to allow full casino privileges to down state Racinos before, the year 2023. It would cost the state about $300 million. So, I don't see Yonkers going anywhere soon. And, I mean anywhere like, to Belmont. NYRA is set to start a 2 year renovation at Belmont park with no plans for harness racing.
I don't there is any question, NYRA has long term plans that does not include racing at Aqueduct. They become eligible for a casino in less than 4 years. What I don't see is anywhere harness racing is in the forward plan.
When the state was only handing out 3 licenses first time around he cried enough to convince them to hand him a fourth. They can do whatever they want with the right greasing.
Well when you consider that Waterloo isn't part of the southern tier, the casino in Montighetto is failing and Rivers isn't so hot either he felt as though he was getting fucked. Looking at the fact that his little place is the only one NOT FAILING he was right.
