The video shows kinda old horse races to start and just at the end shows outdoor seating presumably for possible races but that's the only references on it. Just false hope, probably, that they would eliminate that upstanding track.

If you look at some of the pics you see the track in the background. And at the end of the video it says “empire city, Yonkers raceway” now again it’s a rendering and things can change at a moments notice. But looks positive this far. Just obviously not their focal point in introducing the development plans

Yonkers prints money for all the stakeholders now. They average $165 million a week in gross gaming receipts. Quite a good game for a local gaming hall.
As a destination, I doubt they could do much better. So, were will the greater profit from the investment come from? I suspect it will come from a more favorable revenue split for MGM.
Anyway you slice it, harness racing as it is now is on the table.
MGM knows what failure is with destination resort hotels and casinos is. Look at the numbers at their billion dollar monstrosity in Springfield , Massachusetts.

I recall something addressing that in the initial contract.

Why don't NY just add a harness track at Belmont??

1 1/2 Mile Main
1 1/4 Turf
1 1/8 Synth
1 mile harness.

Something like that.

Close Yonkers. Leave Monticello and the upstates to the hilbillies.

Plus, you get to fuck Gural if you wish.

The issue with that is that the Belmont grandstand is not enclosed. It gets mighty cold in there in sep/oct when it gets windy. They would need a renovation of Belmont to add year-round harness or just move the harness in the cold months to Aqueduct with the TB's.

Belmont rebuild is under construction now. It includes a much smaller and modern grandstand. Belmont was built to seat, 50,000 people. The place is huge.
So far, they took enough land to build the 20,000 seat home to the NHL Islanders.
Joe Faraldo floated the idea of harness racing at Belmont a few years back. Problem was, he was the only person talking about it. NYRA had zero interest in giving up their training track for a product that produces 1/10 the revenue of it's product.
Not to mention T-bred folks believe harness people are complete low lives.
The new Belmont Park is slated to reopen in about 2 years. So, for this year and next, the third leg of the Triple Crown will be held at  Saratoga Racecourse. They will open for the first weekend in May, then the meet will resume at Aqueduct until July. Last week they offered the Belmont day reserved seats and they sold out in 2 hours.
When the Belmont Park project is completed, the smart money says Aqueduct will close racing operations and Belmont will run year round with Saratoga.

Most people in the harness industry had no interest in track at Belmont. Shipping in would be an absolute nightmare
