BREAKING: Trump-backed Iowa Senate candidate Ashley Hinson BEGS supporters to fill her campaign bus’s tank while fuel prices SOAR under her political hero.
You would think that at least some people in Iowa want to elect a Senator with at least a modicum of intelligence to deal with the myriad of problems our nation currently faces. After all, judgment, deliberation, and experience are all necessary — or at least desirable — qualities for some seeking a six-year term in the senior chamber of Congress. And the ability to successfully campaign for the job is a definite prerequisite.
Unfortunately for the Republicans in Iowa, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, their Trump-endorsed senatorial candidate, just proved why she is unqualified to replace the retiring incumbent Senator Joni Ernst on that last measure alone.
You see, Republicans are already facing an uphill battle to retain control of Congress, given Donald Trump’s dismal economic record, his harmful tariffs that are disproportionatel y affecting Iowa’s farmers, a disastrous war with Iran, and ICE storm troopers decimating the workers on the state’s farms and meat-packing plants, among a host of other ills.
So, with that handicap already weighing down her campaign, why in the world would Rep. Hinson remind prospective voters of exactly how high gas and diesel prices have risen under Trump, particularly since he began the latest unpopular Mid East war?
You would imagine that the stratospheric rise in fuel and energy prices would be on a no-brainer list of topics to avoid while on the stump.
Yet, there was Hinson on the trail this week, standing in a parking lot in front of tour bus and what looks to be the most pathetically meager crowd you can imagine, giving exactly the reminder that most undermines her chances at election.
Speaking about the anger she imagines that her supporters feel when they watch the negative ads that the campaign of her Democratic opponent, Josh Turek, have plastered over the Iowa airwaves, Hinson said:
“So, use that anger about these lies that they're telling about us on TV because if they're willing to lie about me, they're willing to lie about you. So, I want you to channel that into action in getting your friends out to vote.”
So far, so good. Nothing detrimental to her campaign there.
But it was what she said next while soliciting donations for her campaign that demonstrated that her political smarts are sorely lacking: “Help give us a little gas money for our bus.”
Alarm bells should have immediately gone off in her head — or at least in the anxious cranium of her campaign manager — that she had just stepped in a heaping pile of self-destructive doo-doo. It’s bad enough that she reminds people of a topic that does not reflect well on the Republican Party, but she also is directly contradicting the man who endorsed her, Donald Trump, who has been proclaiming either that gas prices are actually going down or that their current elevated level will rapidly disappear once he successfully conquers Iran — something, we must remind you, he said had been accomplished months ago.
Sorry, Ashley, that was a major mistake, and with a blue wave coming to crash down on traditionally red Iowa, it’s a mistake you can’t afford to make at this point
