THIS IS HILARIOUS: Sen. Eric Schmitt Brought a Poster Board to Catch Jack Smith Lying Under Oath, and It Backfired Instantly Because He Confused the Atlanta Hawks With the Iowa Hawkeyes
You really can't make this up.
At Tuesday's Senate hearing, Sen. Eric Schmitt thought he had Jack Smith trapped.
His big theory was that Smith went to an Atlanta Hawks game in 2024 as cover for a secret meeting with Fani Willis.
Smith said he didn't go.
So Schmitt had a staffer hold up a poster board of text messages and told Smith he'd give him "a second to process it so you don't, you know, perjure yourself."
Then Schmitt took a victory lap.
"I think you've already perjured yourself."
Then Smith looked at the texts.
He had a very simple explanation. He was at a University of Maryland game to watch Caitlin Clark.
Against Iowa.
The Hawkeyes.
Not the Atlanta Hawks.
Schmitt had built his entire trap around the wrong Hawks.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar looked right at him and said, "Perhaps you should have looked at it more carefully."
The poster board. The perjury warning. The victory lap.
