CAPTAIN BONE SPURS STRIKES AGAIN! Trump says he wants to award the Medal of Honor to HIMSELF — at a ceremony honoring ACTUAL war heroes.
Donald Trump’s narcissistic hubris truly knows no bounds. His egotism is so pervasive that he’s utterly incapable of the type of shame that people with actual morals would feel if they did or said the things that he does.
Take Trump’s remarks today at a ceremony honoring Congressional Medal of Honor recipients at the Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas.
Standing in front of 15 living recipients of the prestigious award — people who charged into enemy fire, saved fellow soldiers' lives, and risked everything for this country — Donald Trump made the ceremony about himself. Of course he did. You expected something different?
"You know, I've never said this, I told Jerry a long time ago, the thing I really want is I want for myself a Congressional Medal of Honor, and I've studied it, and I will give it to myself, I have no problem, but I'm not allowed to," Trump said. "Can you believe it? The one thing I'm not allowed to do, I would give myself."
It’s difficult to contemplate the gall that Trump possesses to say such a thing. The Medal of Honor is America's highest military decoration, reserved exclusively for acts of extraordinary valor in combat. It cannot be requested, campaigned for, or self-awarded, by design, precisely because true heroism doesn't seek out recognition. Trump, standing beside actual recipients who earned theirs through documented battlefield sacrifice, openly complained that this one honor is off-limits to him.
He then tried the classic move of retroactively claiming it was a joke, while simultaneously making clear it wasn't: "So tonight the story will be that Donald Trump wants the Congressional Medal of Honor for himself. I'm only kidding. Actually, I'm not kidding, I would like that. I can think of no other thing."
That's not sarcasm. That's a president telling America, out loud, in front of actual war heroes, that he genuinely wishes he could hand himself the nation's highest symbol of combat valor. Trump has never served in the military. He famously received five draft deferments during Vietnam, one for bone spurs he could never quite specify the location of.
This is a man who's spent years building golden ballrooms, renaming lakes after himself, and demanding his name be plastered on the Kennedy Center. Apparently even America's most sacred military honor, reserved for people who bled and sacrificed on the battlefield, wasn't safe from becoming another prop in his self-mythology.
Real heroes stood silently beside him while he made their moment about his own ego. That tells you everything about what actually matters to this president. One thing is for sure: it isn’t military heroes, real valor, or the well-being of the American people.
