Agreed.  Lou was a winner and I have had the honor of being very close to Lou for over 50 plus years!!!   Many people did not understand Lou and his methods as they were advanced by many generations!!   I was fortunate to have completed tens of millions of dollars in transactions with Lou from ski resorts and hotels and racetracks and millions invested in these racehorses!!   

Lou, you were the best and I miss our days on Wall Street to our breakfast meetings at the FLAMINGO!!

Guida syndicated Niatross. The way I remember it, and from what I read in the legal documents, originally, Berger owned 100% of the horse, and "gave" a 50% interest to Clint, allegedly, when Niatross was a yearling. Clint had a very long-standing relationship with Berger and had trained for her for many years. They were very close. Clint wanted to buy into the horse as a yearling or when he was being broke, and Berger allegedly "gifted" Clint a 50% interest and part of the deal was that Clint would not charge any training bill for the horse.

When Niatross made the races, after he won about 6 or 7 in a row, Guida came calling, LOL. Guida put together a partnership, and bought a 50% interest (25% each coming from Berger and Clint) for $2.5m, which gave him exclusive rights to syndicate the horse. Allegedly Guida was supposed to be the managing partner because it was made clear to everyone that if the horse continued to succeed, he was going to syndicate the horse.....which he ended up doing. The syndication was a separate and distinct deal from Guida's initial purchase.

Like him or not, Guida was the first person to bring "Wall Street" to the harness game. Even before his LPG, Wall St. Stable, and his ownership and syndication activities, he got several investment firms to create private placements/LP's in the standardbred business. Guida was very, very entrepreneurial, even going as far as putting together a group to buy the Philadelphia Eagles.....which I think he technically owned for one day, LOL.

When he started to step up his ownership, and get much bigger, his own partnerships for ownership, and his syndication deals, changed the landscape of the harness game. His buying for his partnerships changed the marketplace, and it was very, very difficult to buy good horses because he was already on them.
