Doc Moore speaks! ----Moore said he tries to stay off social media. Told that Beau’s less-than-optimal 3-year-old season, to date, has some of the colt’s critics questioning whether the pacer should have been the Horse of the Year last year – particularly from those that were against a 2-year-old that never left Canada winning top honors in the first place – Moore doesn’t hesitate. “That’s total horses - - -, in my opinion,” he said. “He’s the champion, period. He was one of the best 2-year-olds of all time.” You can hear his ire and competitive spirit rising. “Wouldn’t it be nice if we could finish the year well now and MAKE THEM EAT IT” Moore said of the colt’s critics, before he softened somewhat to provide a realistic assessment for the rest of Beau Jangles’ sophomore season.

Great on one track and doesn't ship well. That is not "great".

Quote
The standardbred pacer Beau Jangles has won exactly 1 race on a track other than Woodbine Mohawk Park. Out of his 16 lifetime victories, 15 were achieved on his home turf at Woodbine Mohawk Park, while his single away win took place during his freshman season:

gurals casino, i think if you go back to the first two pages of the thread you will see many examples of  comments that now seem foolish
im not suggesting the horse is now ready to trounce the 3 yr old division but some folks were saying he was cooked, never to win again

i just reviewed pages 1 and 2 of this thread and I saw one comment saying he was "cooked"(jury still out on that)

tripping out and defeating 4 other Gold Series horses does not mean much

let us not forget he was soundly beaten in the NA Cup

let us not forget he wasn't good enough and couldn't clear against Gold Series horses at Grand River

let us not forget he tripped out vs Mohawk winners over horses and had nothing

let us not forget he tripped out and was no factor at Pocono

we all know what happened-he never improved much from age 2 to 3 and everyone else did

personally i feel this has nothing to do with him having 12 races at age 2, his trainer Moore, his driver McClure and/or anything else proposed

he is an OSS Gold horse that needs a perfect trip to beat OSS Gold  horses and, right now, is not competitive vs Grand Circuit 3yos

yes valid points
he matured faster than the others at 2
the others improved significantly and he did not this year
there is only so far you can go on improving from 2 to 3

Correct!

Even Niatross 'jumped' the hubrail and broke stride in the Meadowlands Pace Elimination in 1980.

I guess we'll soon see if BJ is back in the top 5 or so. I am very surprised they are considering the LBJ. We'll see.

The break race might have been one of his best just to qualify for that final!

Race 7 Selections The Horseplayer’s Journal by Garnet Barnsdale
#4 REDLAND ROCKET MAN was unbelievable three starts back in an OSS Gold race at Grand River where he took
on and hung out all comers including Beau Jangles then he dug in late to gamely fend off Borderline Mobby while
pacing the fastest winning mile on a five-eighths mile track in Canadian history. He fired back in the Milstein and he
raced great again, this time closing wide to get second at 30 to 1. In his last start, he might have done something
that we have never seen before at this racetrack: he paced identical 25 3/5 opening and closing quarters and he got
beat. He fended off third quarter pressure, but he couldn’t repel a fresh Beau Jangles in deep stretch. That was a
super effort, and he will likely offer an overlaid price tonight. I’ll side with him.
#3 BEAU JANGLES was invincible last season where he went undefeated in 12 starts, earned $1.68 million, and
was voted Horse of the Year in North America. He lost that cloak of invincibility in the North America Cup, and he
came into his last race riding a six race losing streak. He got his third new driver in as many starts when Mohawk’s
leading pilot James Macdonald took over the lines, and he got perfectly tripped out and was loaded in deep stretch.
He certainly looked good getting up for the win, but I’m not sure the top pick didn’t actually race better in defeat.
This colt could be an underlay in this spot.
#1 SWEET LOVIN LOU hit his best stride at The Meadowlands on Hambletonian Day where he closed from last in
a short field and zoomed by to win the Cane Pace. He raced well again in the Hempt where he closed for fourth
behind division leader Brandon Blvd. He will be the one closing late in this short field, and this should be a good
race.
#2 WHOLETTHEDOGSOUT will likely get positioned closer to the front than #5 Odds On Bullfrog, and he can sit a
trip and win the race for fourth.
