On Thursday, August 13, 2026, the memorial was found with fountains overflowing with soapy bubbles and walls spray-painted with graffiti reading “Clean hands Dirty $” CBS News+1. Witnesses told U.S. Park Police that they saw a woman spray-painting one of the pavilions and filming herself on a phone CBS News.
