In Range

Ohio based Regional stallion looks like he will have the favorite in both Hambo and Oakes out of his first crop.  Was a really nice 2 year old and a meh 3 year old.  Pedigree is fine but fairly common.  Brother Long Tom throws off useful horses as well.

Stud fee is $10k and highest in Ohio is $17.5k for DBTSS and Louprint.  State is overbred and not sure it would support a full book at that level for a trotter.  My guess is he gets moved

Zero chance he gets moved. Ohio is arguably the best program in North America right now, with KY dual eligibility it can’t be beat. Stud fee will be raised considerably (again) and he’s fully syndicated with only a few outside bookings available, book will be closed as soon as it’s opened.

In Range actually has a very good stallion pedigree, very solid, strong foundation. He's well bred. He was a $185,000 yearling, they were high on him as a 2yo, and he had an excellent freshman campaign. Didn't meet the expectations as a 3yo, but he showed up to some of the big dances. When they syndicated him, the shares sold out very quickly and they structured it with a four year deal attached to it. He's from the family of Yankee Duchess, who has a very strong lineage pedigree/family. Check out his extended pedigree. I think he's #3 on the earnings list, from a crop on the small crop---and both Chapter Seven and Captain Corey had bigger crops and more starters. I have no idea if the stallion is up for a move or not, but this was no backyard stud, LOL.

I don’t think I said ‘backyard stud’ - which there are plenty of in Ohio but there is a reason he went to Ohio.  The $185k price tag was largely driven by being a Bar Hopping over a Windsong Legacy made who had just produced a productive Muscle Hill 2 yo (Long Tom).  The pedigree gets pretty old pretty quick.  Nothing wrong with that but from a commercial perspective it isn’t trendy by any means.

All of that is out the window now given production.  They come out very racy - which can concern from a longevity perspective- but the early speed is there in spades.  Luther had a colt win in 51 today at Lexington out of a Malabar Man mare.
