Would a minimum bet of $5 fly in the Harness game????
« on: July 30, 2026, 03:44:33 PM »
Kentucky Downs has or is raising the minimum wager to $5. WPS and gimmicks alike. The posted results will make it look like there's magnificent value in  the R.O.I. at first glance. This should be interesting to say the least!

$5 total bet on exotics or $5 straight bet?  Do I have to bet $5 on a superfecta key with multiple horses in each spot or the total bet has to be more than $5?

The late Pick 3 is a $3 minimum and late DD a $5 minimum, no other changes other than some lower takeouts. If they see it's hurting the handle they'll probably drop the $5 minimum on W-P-S.

higher minimum wagers produce better payoffs

bettors are less likely to play 20/1 shots in exactas if the minimum was $5

when Parx was called Keystone in the late 70s and 80s--the minimum exacta base was $3 and the payoffs were very nice

make superfectas/pentafectas a $1 min and lets get rid of the dime superfecta player who is just playing bingo or his license plate or address

When trifectas first came out a long time ago, in alot of states it was a $3 minimum, straight wager but think they had a $6 box too, and there were only one or two on an entire card, superfectas weren't around back then.

interesting
first lets get rid of $.20 base wagers
even pick 5 should be $.50
also i think the minimum wager 40 years ago was $2.00
we have actually gone backwards
real gamblers are not afraid of the higher base amount

I remember years ago Balmoral Park only had trifecta on the last race and quinella and perfecta only on certain races. All of the others just win, place and show. And the place was full

$5 base base wagers for W,P,S, PERFECTA KEYS,TRIFECTA WHEELS ect, etc! For example and Exact key like 1/2,3 is $10 &TRI BOX1,2,3 is now $30. This is the new platform @ a Thoroughbred track here in the U.S,!
