I agree it's always been sad.  The egotistical Horsemen got fucked after they voted against the owner of Scarborough Downs. They got it stuck up the ass for good

I never knew the story that you are referring to until about 5 years ago. Although I don't know exactly what happened, it would seem your memory of what happened is correct. Scarbough Downs is now apartments and private homes with a new shopping center slated to open there soon. The big sign on US 1 is the only remnant of the track.
