Sheridan, WY — Harness Elite, together with its partners and team members, are proud to announce the Million Dollar Betting Challenge, wagering $1 million USD on harness racing over a period of approximately 60 days, beginning on July 22.

Led by the Harness Elite team and supported by our growing community of serious horseplayers, the challenge is designed to demonstrate that harness racing remains one of the last great skill-based betting markets while encouraging more people to participate in the sport through informed, disciplined wagering.

JB Demers, Founder of Harness Elite, states, “Too many horseplayers—and even people within the industry—have accepted the idea that harness racing isn’t beatable. They point to smaller fields, late odds changes, take out, and short-priced favorites as reasons to stay away. We understand those concerns because we’ve lived them ourselves. But betting harness racing today simply requires a different approach.”

The challenge is designed to demonstrate that disciplined, informed wagering can still be profitable, while showcasing harness racing to a broader audience. Throughout the campaign, Harness Elite will produce educational content covering handicapping strategy, bankroll management, value identification, race selection, and the realities of pursuing a long-term edge in the pari-mutuel marketplace. Following each race day, we will publish a transparent log of our wagers, along with regular performance summaries, observations, and lessons learned through our blog, email newsletter, and social media channels.

Demers added, “This challenge isn’t simply about betting one million dollars. It’s about getting horseplayers to take another look at harness racing and showing them there are still opportunities for disciplined bettors willing to do the work.”

Approximately 70% of the total wagering handle will be directed toward United States and Canadian harness racetracks, reflecting our commitment to supporting the North American racing industry and its wagering pools. The remaining handle will primarily focus on French harness racing, with additional overnight wagering opportunities expected in Australia as conditions warrant. By participating across multiple international jurisdictions, the challenge will highlight the global nature of harness racing while demonstrating the analytical approaches and discipline required to compete in a variety of racing environments.

“The next generation of horseplayers will look different than the last,” Demers notes. “They’ll be data-driven, technology-enabled, and comfortable using AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics as part of their handicapping and betting process. We believe the industry has an opportunity to embrace those players, learn what they value, and build products that keep them engaged. If this challenge helps start that conversation, it will be one of its greatest successes.”

Every day of the challenge will feature race previews, wagering discussions, educational articles, podcasts, videos, social media updates, live betting commentary, post-race analysis, and transparent performance reporting. Followers will be able to see how experienced horseplayers approach race selection, identify value, churn handle, manage risk, and think about wagering over the long term. The challenge is intended to educate, entertain, and inspire confidence in harness racing as a game where skill and preparation can influence outcomes over time.

To maximize the impact of the initiative, Harness Elite will invest $50,000 in a comprehensive marketing campaign promoting the Million Dollar Betting Challenge to audiences well beyond the traditional harness racing community. Advertising will appear across sports betting and daily fantasy sports podcasts, gambling media, digital platforms, social media, video content, and other wagering-focused channels with the objective of introducing harness racing to serious, analytically minded bettors.

Millions of sports bettors devote countless hours to studying statistics, identifying value, and searching for opportunities where informed analysis can provide an advantage. Harness racing offers those same intellectual challenges in a fast-paced pari-mutuel environment where bettors compete against one another rather than against a sportsbook. The Million Dollar Betting Challenge is intended to introduce this audience to the excitement, depth, and strategy of harness racing while encouraging them to discover a betting market where preparation and disciplined decision-making can still make a meaningful difference.

When speaking about transparency, Demers offered, “We’re putting our money where our mouth is. Every wager, every winning streak, every losing streak and every lesson learned will be shared publicly. We believe that’s how confidence is earned.”

The challenge also seeks to strengthen the relationship between horseplayers and the harness racing industry. Serious bettors generate substantial wagering handle and are essential to the long-term success of the sport. By bringing together bettors, racetracks, industry organizations, and media partners around a shared objective, the Million Dollar Betting Challenge aims to increase wagering activity, create new fans, and demonstrate the value of investing in player engagement and education.

Harness Elite invites racetracks, horsemen’s associations, advance deposit wagering platforms, breeders, owners, trainers, industry organizations, media outlets, and all supporters of harness racing to help amplify the impact of this effort by sharing our content, engaging with the campaign across their own platforms, and encouraging their audiences to participate. Organizations that share our vision are also invited to become official sponsors and promotional partners. Together, we can introduce thousands of new bettors to harness racing, increase wagering participation, and showcase the excitement and opportunity the sport continues to offer.

I applaude their optimism but one serious question...

when u "start" with 1 Million....

by the time your wagers are digested, so to speak
by the Amtote system..you are left with approximately
$760,000 or so after the "rake" or "Juice" extracted
in the form of the usurious Pari mutuel Taxes.

So, in essence , the player is in the hole for $240,000

before they start....

They will have to "win" $240,000 to break EVEN.

If I win $240,000 on a million wagered...I have no interest

in sharing that $$ or letting the track take it all.

That is absurd...Highway robbery.

What kind of an incentive is this for any gambler?

If I wager 1 Million and "Break even" the Track's take

is $240,000 and my "profit "  is a goosegg.

Sad but true.

How many nights of wagering thousands with stacks of
tickets in my pocket...and walking out "even"...
a small loser or winner.

While the track take on my $5000 wagered was

well over $1000..

I did all the "work" and they made all the money.

Racing needs a 8% Takeout...

Maybe an idea would be to play just carryover pick

5. Pick 6 or High 5 that have a good amount in the pot.

This would eliminate all WPS, Exacta, Tri, DD, Superfecta
and Pik 3 wagers which comprise 90% + of all
wagering.

Also factor in "Insider Trading" and Computer Wagering Groups
that skew all the prices.

Someone tell me how to win....as I cannot come close.

I used to make some good scores on occasion...

but those are decades ago.

I guess I forgot how to handicap.

When you place a $100 wager on any horse race

"Amtote, the track and Uncle Sam" are your

 partners..

They take 25 Cents of every Dollar you wager

  for starters...

You are only wagering 75 cents against your opponents.

  But wait...it is not over...

If you are fortunate to make a huge score....

Uncle Sam steps in and would like you to fork over

another 25% or so...State and Federal taxes due..

   same as the Lottery.

   Great deal...

Any answers here on the positive side.

I say drop the takeout to 8% and not allow

any Computer groups to wager...No rebates for these

groups so they can steal everyones money.

One last question....

So Elite will be wagering $1 Million USD...

Will the wagers go thru the Pari Mutuel system

or just "paper" wagers or mind bets that will not affect

the final Pari Mutuel Payouts?

If the wagers go thru AMtote...my guess is the losses

will be around $150,000-200,000 on a Million wagered.

A guess....that would reflect a 10% profit on all wagers

as the take out is substantial and with any large wager

you have diminishing returns..

e.g.  Wager $1000 to win at Yonkers or Mohawk

and you will in fact knock down the Win payoff,

and/or Exacta ,Tri payout

I don't mean to be rude, but do you honestly think very many people are actually reading your long winded posts?. You make John Frank's posts look like short stories

Guy is a fucking assclown that has extended conversations with himself.  His take on the wagering strategy and thought process is ridiculous.  He needs to stick to his breeding topics that no one cares about.  I know one filly that probably with she'd never been bred that year.   ngc3

He is a nuisance and just another troll that has been resurrected.

However, it has shut down Sweet answering every post.

And that's refreshing.
