Listen to the race call from 1978 at Sportsman's Park with Gil Levine...the horse's name...Union Special.

Gil had a couple others that stood out as well. Old Time Religion, and my personal favorite, Clancy N.

            Sincerely, Silent One

In today’s era of race callers it is Mike Sardella.

From years past Joe Ricci.

For the most part, track announcers seem to have lifetime jobs unless they quit or retire no matter how bad they get.

Even more so with drivers.

Aren’t there quite a few older drivers safer than a few of the younger ones.

I can agree with this.  I might argue that a lot of the younger ones are simply Nth generational participants with few other options in life.  As a result, the sport suffers.

My favorte announcer.  What happened to him?  I tried Google but found nothing.  Too many Max Brewers.

And Max Brewer's listime was tragically cut short.

Here's a little Clancy on the back side in a race he lost.  Usually Gil waited until Cancy made his patented stretch move to sing.

Max Brewer died from a heart attack at a very early age. I believe he was in his late 30’s. Like most Monticello Raceway fans I really liked his calls.
