Ontario Racing (OR) announced on Thursday, July 9 that it is immediately contributing additional funding of more than $14 million to the Ontario Standardbred horse racing industry

The horse racing industry in Ontario annually injects more than $1.9 billion to the Ontario economy and provides approximately $330 million in provincial taxes. Horse racing drives economic activity in dozens of communities across the province, particularly in rural areas where economic opportunities may be limited.

All 3 Pennsylvania tracks raced for a lot more money years ago and it’s gotten a lot worse. Especially at pocono. Look at the trainers from 15 years ago and today!  You have to go real fast for less money too.

Did they define the industry?

Purse accounts
Restoration and beautification
Marketing
Other

New York i believe has a set formula for money coming and going.

yes they did
surprisingly a large amount going to overnight purses and specifically for Ontario sired horses
lets face it , the idiots at WEG have never been the brightest folks, but even they know they are losing racing opportunities to the USA specifically Kentucky and many horses from Ontario are being sold into the USA to take advantage of the 40% currency exchange
these increases had to be done  for Ontario to succeed and survive , not just at mohawk but for the B tracks as well, too late for rideau carlton
Ontario racing needs to take bac control and not leave their destiny in the hands of casinos who will destroy it

Eventually the taxpayers are going to revolt.

How long will the owners be running this operation?

once again, there seems to be some confusion about the correlation between handle and purses

there is none

purses are subsidized by casino/slots, or in New Jersey's case--taxpayer handout

in Kentucky--purses are funded by HHR(historical horse racing) -a type of slots showing replays of races from years past--Kentucky has allotted a large amount of money to purses-that is why you see huge purses at Churchill/Keeneland/Ellis/Turfway/Kentucky Downs

......--and in harness-Red Mile/Thunder Ridge/Oak Grove-although a big chunk is for KySS and not so much for overnite racing

in the future--can we please stop with the nonsense about handle and purses please?  they are independent of each other

thank you

Kenny, please come up with some new material
your response is always the same without any fact checking
clearly you have an axe to grind with the industry, perhaps share why
as for me, i will just buy a couple more mares to take advantage of this new windfall
Canadians are muppets, they are not going to complain about anything

It hasn't happened yet, but in PA in previous years some politicians wanted to eliminate the funding for racetracks and divert the money to in their eyes more important things, but so far have been unsuccessful but will keep trying.
