Mohawk Baby Qualifiers

Not sure if anyone watched them live this morning. Free Agent looked like he had lots of go, put steps in halfway down the lane but kept pacing to the wire. The only other more impressive thing I saw was the blonde unhooking the bike on Blake’s two year olds.

The usual suspects out there a month too early. Dont' know what got into Luc Blais as he's known for having half a brain but alas, another 3.5M up in smoke for the fifth straight year. I suspect Carl and Blake will have one of those hang around to keep them in the spotlight while the other 95% end up being worthless.

Haven't seen a horse go wire to wire mostly in the center of the racetrack like McNair's in the final.

Thought that 2 of the 3 King of the Norths (both for Jamieson) looked pretty good, especially the filly, Treasure King, who looks early on like she could progress to top tier territory given her gait and speed.  The 3rd KON was wearing pants and didn't show anything.

Honestly, someone should do a study on the performance from 2-3 on the horses that qualify at first offering (so maybe 1st week of June or earlier). In certain venues, we're looking at fair horses, which is fine. But no one with aspirations beyond that ought to be qualifying before June 10 IMO.

seriously
they qualified on June 4
and you suggest that that extra 6 days to June 10 will make some kind of difference, in what way
to be clear i am in no hurry to have horses qualify
but they have been training for 7 or 8 months
at  mohawk most pacers went around 1:59 and trotters around 2:01
that really should not be too taxing on that track on what was a beautiful day

Maybe my point is lost.

I don't think, generally speaking, the first qualifiers end up being the best horses. Some of that is different aspirations (if you're aiming for fairs, be ready to go in fair times, and early). But I am betting we are not seeing the best of the best right now.

For every one a trainer think is ready, they find out one isn’t ready.

Trainers every once in a while have an inkling if there is one special.

The first qualifier can/will answer this!
