 I think he sold cheap a couple of times as the owner couldn't handle him.

Good first trip to Plainridge of the season yesterday.

When I was there last week, they had a couple hundred watching the races. Also slots folks drift in and out from the casino. When I get to Monticello over the summer, they would be thrilled to have 1/2 of watch Plainridge gets. LOL!

Pompano had a decent crowd before it closed.
Batavia dies also when the meet opens in July.

Almost all harness tracks have no fans watching at the track. And every year it gets less and less as the fans die off.

We attended the live racing and Derby festivities at Plainridge on Saturday, and it was the best day we've ever had at a harness track.

The crowd was big (we heard estimates of 4,000), track management and staff went above and beyond to create a festive and fun atmosphere, good food and drink options were plentiful, and live harness racing was provided the platform it deserves.

There are a couple areas of improvement (the in-person betting lines were long and time-consuming, and the live racing PA and audio for the Derby telecast were insufficient for the crowd), but overall it was a great showcase for the track and the sport.

Drives me insane. You have an apron full of people watching your live racing, and a lot of newbies, and you can't hear anything. That's inexcusable.

To be more specific, the DJ was great about muting his music during the live races, and you could hear the live call if you were standing in the usual grandstand area. But you didn't have to walk too far down the apron toward the "party" area of the festivities before you couldn't hear the race call during a race.

As for the Derby audio, it wasn't piped into the OTB/bar area where numerous simulcast TVs were showing the race, or over the PA for folks watching the race outside on the infield Jumbotron.

Ensuring *everyone* could hear the live race calls and Derby call would've made a great experience even better.
