Carey added that existing–but similarly unfulfilled–business plans that his company has for a separate Standardbred racino at another regional location are also under consideration for purchase by at least some of the potential buyers.

“So it's not going to be just Hawthorne,” Carey said. “They really are honing in on that second location and helping out the harness guys.”

      Reported to be $138 million, owed to over 200 creditors. Hawthorne (Carey) has reached an agreement, according to the Chicago Tribune, to sell for $90 million. This offer was a stalking horse bid. Any other bid must beat the stalking horse offer. The bid came from ALLIMAC LLC of Wilmington, Delaware. It has been reported that ALLIMAC LLC has no interest to continue racing or the casino license. The deadline for submission of bids for Hawthorne was Friday, June 26.

Before ruling, Barnes said he was surprised the initial bid was as low as $90 million since Hawthorne officials earlier said they had entertained offers for well more than $100 million. The judge questioned all parties to the case about prospects for obtaining higher bids, including "going concern" bids, through an extension. A going concern bid is one that intends to purchase a distressed business or property with the intent of sustaining it.

With the bidding process shrouded in nondisclosure agreements, Barnes said it was left to his determination whether that chance was worth approving another $1.9 million in spending.

That interim financing and other obligations would be repaid through the proceeds of a sale. Barnes, however, indicated a sale price as low as $90 million might mean unsecured creditors might not recover any of the money they're owed.

"If the stalking horse bidder is the winning bidder, that's a disastrous outcome," said Michael Brandess, attorney for the creditors' committee.
 
   The judge extended the deadline for bids, until July 10, in hopes of a bidder that would want to keep racing going. Evidently, The $90 Million bid was the only one received.

Now, of course he wants money to keep paying his high-ranking executives, their perks, car payments, etc. Thankfully the Judge put a stop to that. All you heard from Carey was about all the strategic partners they were negotiating with, collaborating with, to build a casino. In the end, there wasn't one. Nobody wanted to do business with him. Leading up AND THROUGHOUT the entire bankruptcy, all you heard from Carey, and his corporate mouthpiece was that they were in a very good position for moving forward. Delusional or misrepresenting, doesn't matter. He hurt and damaged the horsemen. Now you have hundreds of horses and people on the backstretch who have to get out. Thankfully the buyer is being cooperative, and so are others. But all this happened because of Tim Carey.
