I also believe they did it that way so all officials get paid for the night. They probably knew all day they're going to cancel.

The USTA website said the cancellation was due to track conditions. Should they have known that in advance, probably, but maybe they couldn't tell by just grading the track, but when the horses scored down it may have been icy in spots and they chose not to race, who really knows?

The temp rose sharply. went from freezing to high 50's and sunny in a matter of an hour. Frost came through. Tough to handle.
